Okay...I have a confession...I have never seen It's a Wonderful Life. Nope...never. Now that that is out of the way, my very favorite Christmas movie OF ALL TIME is Elf. I love Elf, love everything about Elf.

Favorite Lines:

Smiling's my favorite.

It's just nice to find another human with such an affinity for Elf Culture.

We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup

The best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singning loud for all to hear.

You're not Santa! You smell like beef and cheese. How can you live with yourself? You sit on a throne of lies!!!

Benjamin and I have watched it no less than 30 times since it came out on DVD.

I love the 1956 version of Rudolf the Red Nosed Raindeer. We have it on DVD and Im so glad that my boys love it as much as I do/did. However, it does get a little old after the 26th request to watch it in July, LOL! Oh, and Charlie Brown Christmas...we still do a Charlie Brown tree because of this movie.

Yes! Holiday Inn!!! My mom and I have been watching that together since I was little. I had such a crush on Bing Crosby ;)
Also love Miracle on 34th Street, and the American Ballet Theater's tv version of The Nutcracker. Mikhail Baryshnikov as a young man--definitely a holiday treat!

Just think of all of the roads there are...all of the things I haven't seen....yet.

Yeah for Miracle on 34th Street! I love both of the versions...the old and the new! We have a family tradition of holiday movies - beginning the day after Thanksgiving we choose a new one every night...and add to our DVD collection every year. I guess I am going to have to watch It's a Wonderful Life this year. And I havent seen the old musicals in YEARS...

Hi,
It's a Wonderful Life, and The Grinch...I hadn't seen "It's a Wonderful Life" until I was in my 30's and immediately fell in love with it, and "The Grinch" since I was very young, I just plain love the original, and did find the remake enjoyable. I also like "Elf" very much.

Favorite line for ELF:
"Son of a nutcraker!"

But my FAVORITE movie is A CHRISTMAS STORY! Favorite lines:
"FRAGILE - fra-geee-lay Must be French"
"FUUUUUDDDDGGGEEEE only I didn't say Fudge. It was F dash, dash, dash the mother of all curse words."
"You'll shoot your eye out, you'll shoot your eye out"
and
"It was...soap... poisoning!"

Next favorite would have to be WHITE CHRISTMAS with Bing Crosby! He's so hot I would marry him if he were still alive!!!

I love them all..but I think "It's a wonderful Life" has to be #1. You MUST watch it Susan! You will love it. I do love Elf too. My husband just hates that one but the kids and I just crack up. There are just so so many funny moments in that one!! And I love both versions of the Grinch and the old goodies like "White Christmas" and "Holiday Inn" too. And the Santa Clause and #2. We went to the theatre and saw #3 a couple weeks ago..it was cute too. I love the first one best though. We collect Christmas movies too, and added a DVD collection of classics last year..it has old tv Christmas episodes too, like Beverly Hillbillies and Ozzie and Harriet..I love that. We are very much into watching Christmas movies now.
Oh..I love "The Christmas List" too. Have you all seen it??

Susan, your life will be even more wonderful after you watch It's A Wonderful Life!! Oooh, LOVE that phrase 'son of a nutcracker'! Gotta work that into my vocabulary this season. And I love all the other movies that have been mentioned, too. However, my alltime favorite is A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott as Ebenezer.....just don't get no better than that. I watch it on Christmas Eve every year....after the guests have gone and the dishes are, well, almost done. The sole light downstairs is from the Christmas tree and a few candles, the smell of the tree and the peace and quiet put me in the mood. Makes my mascara run every time. God bless us, every one! Julie!!! You totally crack me up--I'll fight you over Mr. Crosby!!!
Short story--my dad was 50 when I was born and mom was 22. He was a young rounder in the late 30's and 40's and Bingo was his favorite singer, so he had all these recordings, and we listened to them like it was "modern music"....of course, my mom was listening to Dylan and Marvin Gaye, but I digress. I'll never forget the day I found that he'd passed away, and how old he was! I felt totally duped, but I still love him.

Just think of all of the roads there are...all of the things I haven't seen....yet.

For someone with no children, my Christmas DVD collection is extensive:

I love all the old claymation specials - Frosty, Rudolph, and the much-overlooked Little Drummer Boy. My hubby gave the me boxed set for a present a few years ago.

Also I love Muppet Christmas Carol and Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas - Jim Henson was brilliant.

My mother is Wonderful Life- and Christmas Story- obsessed, I've seen those at least 100 times each. She's dropping not-so-subtle hints for us to get her the infamous leg lamp (www.leg-lamp.com if you're interested).

Untamed Heart and Love Actually are not Christmas-specific but are set in December, good for a certain mood.

Let's not forget Charlie Brown and the Grinch. The Nightmare Before Christmas is good watching for my more snarky moments.

But Alistar Sims' black-and-white Christmas Carol gives me the chills no matter how many times I see it.

Confession: I've never seen Miracle on 34th Street in its entirety, can't keep interest past the first 15 minutes.

It's a Wonderful Life (my dh had never seen it until about 3 yrs ago), Christmas Story (I put it on on Christmas Eve and see how many times I can watch it before my dh goes insane), A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (sob, sob -not totally Christmas, but they always show it at Christmas time), The Grinch, Miracle on 34th Street (the old one) and there's one that they show on Lifetime with Ann Jillian and Robert Hay that I always try to watch. She's a small town vet and she & the Dr's dad try to get him to move to the town and be their dr. Yes - the Alistair Sims Christmas Carol!!

"It's a Wonderful Life", "White Christmas" (my sister and I used to do the "Sisters" song together, now we do it by phone) and a "Muppet Christmas Carrol". I also love when they run 24hrs of "A Christmas Story"..Fra-ge-lay and the leg lamp I love!!! I have seen a nightlight version of the leg lamp in some catalog. Maybe Santa will bring that!Oh, and I also love watching the Little House on the Prairie Christmas episode where the girls get a candy stick, a tin cup and a penny and are thrilled!!! And how can you not love "Elf"? We just watched it yesterday after schoolwork was done :)

I love Christmas movies!

Bonnie - I didn't think anyone else knew about The Homecoming! I just watched it yesterday and cried at the end, as always!

My favorite line from Elf - "Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?"

Everyone's pretty much covered all my favorites (including Little House on the Prairie, also a rare one) except Scrooged with Bill Murray. Funny and touching all at the same time!

Alistair Sims' "A Christmas Carol." Wow, it's a great one! And to think all those childhood years I thought it was all about Mister Magoo! Does anyone else remember that one?

Then "It's a Wonderful Life," followed by "A Christmas Story." The mom's hair looks so very eighties it's hard to take very seriously, but I still enjoy it. Who hasn't felt some of what Ralphie goes through? In fact, my Christmas card this year is a sepia toned pic of a kid with his tongue stuck to a pole.

Mary Ann, I love the version of a Christmas Carol you mentioned!

Tiffany, I have always loved the Walton's and a year ago my friend told me I had to watch the Homecoming! I watched hers, then she bought it for me. It is definately one of my faves!

I bought my son The Christmas Story last weekend...what he doesn't know is that his dad was buying him a Red Rider BB gun at the same time he was watching the movie!

Did anyone mention Emmitt Otter's Jugband christmas, not a movie but it's so cute.

My favorite is A Christmas Romance with Olivia Newton John and Gregory Harrison. It is about a lady who is trying to save her farm after her husband dies. She bakes special cakes she sells and Gregory Harrison is the banker who comes to tell her they are foreclosing on her farm. I won't tell you how it ends but it is a happy movie so I am sure you can figure it out.

Blessed are those who love the soil,

Patsy

I would have to say my fave is "Elf".

One of my favorite parts is when he goes to the department store & a perfume sample lady asks if he would like to try some passion fruit spray. He takes it & sprays it in his mouth & then moans, hopping up & down, like a little kid does with something nasty in his mouth & can't get it off of his tongue.

A new favorite for me is "The Polar Express" It is just so cute & pretty realistic looking.

The classics will always be favorites. It was always fun to watch Rudolph, Frosty, Drummer Boy, & the others on tv as a kid. We just bought a set that has 6 of those movies. Can't wait to watch them!

All the Rankin Bass movies I have collected all of them even the ones most people don't know off like Nestor the long eared donkey, Santa claus adventure, and can't think of the name of the other one it is the one with the nun and the little Shepard that is blinded. and see again as a Christmas present from god while playing a Shepard in the nativity that the church puts on. I like all the normal Rankin bass too oh yeah the Lepicauns Christmas too another by them. Then the usual Miracle on 34th street and its a wonderful life my husband like the Christmas story not too fond of that. One of my other favorites is sort of halloweenish the Nightmare before Christmas. So I have weird tastes they don't all match but I like them all. Charlie Brown too and about five differnt verions of a Christmas carol that I have on video. emmit otter lots of muppet movies on video. Did I happen to mention that I do most things over board. I hate most shows on tv for children so I buy lots of videos and I mean lots and lots of videos. All I mentioned except for the mirical one we have on video plus about 30 other christmas ones not mentioned.

My family loves all of the Christmas movies too!! We love THE CHRISTMAS BOX which is often on the Hallmark channel at this time of year. (Richard Thomas is in it)

I love all the old shows like The Little Drummer Boy, Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas (can't believe someone else mentioned it too!!)

BEST MOVIES: It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Holiday Inn and The Bells of St. Mary's (I am a Bing-lover too!!) We will watch any movie with a Holiday theme at least once, but these are the best. Prancer is cute too.

Now we know why we have to start watching some of these in October!
