I know that Missy hasn't shared this on the forum but as her mama I wanted to let you know about a health concern she's having.

Missy went for her first mammogram two weeks ago. They found a spot of calcification in one of her breasts. The doctor was going to do a needle biopsy but unfortunately the spot isn't in a place where they can do that. So two weeks from today Missy will be having outpatient surgery to remove the area.

She went to see the surgeon today and there is some good news in all of this. He said that the spot is very very small. Something like this is usually pre-cancerous and they want to remove it before anything develops. And he said that even if it is cancer that it is so small it would be classified as a zero stage and there should be no further concern once it's removed. So we're breathing a big sigh of relief over that.

Please keep Missy in your prayers for a smooth surgery and healing afterwards.

I will pray for Missy and for you too, Mom. It is hard to see our children go through trying times, but I feel Missy will be perfectly fine. I have heard of this before, always with good results.

Kay and Missy- You know that you are both in my prayers already. I hope that this also is a message to everyone who hasn't had a mammogram yet to schedule one today. They are so useful in determining what baseline (normal) looks like for each woman.
I have had this happen twice now and each time... benign but they knew what looked different from one mammogram to the next so though small;obvious. Light, love, healing and prayers for patience, strength and courage. We love you both!

Hi! I hadn't realized that my Mom had posted about this issue. Thanks so much for the encouragement and prayers. It means so much and gives me that much more strength and courage. I feel much better after talking to the surgeon yesterday knowing that either way, things will be fine. The nurse told me that 90% of the time these areas of calcification are benign. The surgeon explained that a duct can die off and begin to develop an abnormal amount of cells and then the body develops calicifications to protect itself. I do have a family history of breast cancer so I think they are being extra cautious.

Bramble- you are so right about that baseline mammogram. I'm 36 years old and went in specificaly for a baseline. my doctore told me that around age 35 you should have one done. Girls, go get your mammograms if you haven't already!!!!!

Love and Blessings,

Missy

I'm so sorry to hear that you are going through this. How scary!! But at least it seems to be manageable and our little Missy will be ok. It's just too bad that she has to endure the procedure. You'll all be in my thoughts and prayers. Big hugs, Lu
P.S. I get my dorsel fins (mammogram)on Dec 7th. Thanks for the reminder.

Missy glad with more info you are feeling a little more settled. If you have breast cancer in your immediate family (Mom, Sister, Aunt, Gramma) they strongly recommend a baseline 10 years before their onset. For me that meant by 24, since my Mom was diagnosed at 34.
Alot of Doctors won't tell you that because they know the insurance will give you a hard time but documenting the direct relative and age will usually solve the problem and allow you to have a mammogram
prior to 35 if need be. Good luck to you and everyone else who may be going for the first time. It's uncomfortable but not unbearable girls! And it can save your life!
Missy big hugs to you, you will get through this and be just fine.Glad your Mom is nearby for extra support, it helps!

Luzy- Too Funny!!! I hadn't heard the "dorsal fin" thing before. I had to think about it for a minute when I read it! haha Good for you that you are scheduled to go.

Hope Everyone is having a blessed Thanksgiving. Going to mom's a little later for dinner with the family.
