My family has a lot of young-starting-out-in-life type people so we do a Christmas present name draw. My parents usually get everyone a present anyway and then you just have to buy one present for someone else in the family. We try and have them be under $50.

So this year, I drew my boyfriend! LOL and he drew my grandfather. So of course I did the shopping for him. I bought this amazing pewter colored metal and glass birdfeeder for my grandfather (who Doug drew) and some cookbooks by Alton Brown (The Good Eats guy) for Doug since he is really into cooking too.

I spent about $36 bucks on Doug and $26 on my grandfather! Now all I have to do is wait for the packages to arrive and wrap them.

I am really pleased with myself for being on top of everything this year, not waiting too long and all that.

Hope everyone else if finding a stress free way to deal with the holiday purchases.

One thing I have realized with this "one gift" Christmas that my family and I do- it really makes the holidays be more about family and togetherness instead of the commercialism and such. Of course everyone still tries to spoil the kiddos but that is what childhood is for, right? :)

Congratulations to you AND your family, Alee, for making the holidays easy on each other, and about what is important - being together. The birdfeeder sounds really pretty, too. You SHOULD be pleased with yourself!

XOXO, Libbie

Alee, our family decided to do the same thing a couple of years ago and it has made Christmas so much saner! We do our drawing so early that I usually have everything I'm getting the person I draw done by summer...then I just have to remember where I put it!!! As we have all gotten older and nieces & nephews older, too, there is more focus on our time together and enjoying each other's company. A much nicer season, all the way around.

Cheers!

The few gifts I had to get for work exchanges etc, are homemade and hopefully will be complete this weekend.

WOW! Thats great that you are done already. I've only just begun. Isnt that a song? LOL!
I have alot to do for Christmas. Then to find out I am the chair mom for my sons Christmas party at school. Which I love to do, but its just one more thing now. Kinda makes it a little more hectic. But I will be just fine. Sometimes the hustle and bustle can be fun too...I must be crazy!!!!!!!!!

We finally decided to do this last year. It was fun to see who everyone had drawn. I have 2 young nephews, so to see them excited is a thrill in itself.

My biggest problem is my generosity. I love getting "stuff" for people because it makes me hapy to see them happy. In reality, it's the time spent w/ family that really makes me all warm and fuzzy.

I'm a little miffed because my brother and his boys will be at a football game Christmas Eve so a visit from Florida is out of the question. I know they'll have fun just wish we could see them more often
