The Texas Gulf coast is a phenomenal place to go birdwatching in the winter. My traditional birthday present (next month) is a day of birding on Galveston Island. I'll post my list of birds sited after my visit.
I live between the Stillaguamish Valley and the Skagit Valley, bordered by the two rivers. It is the winter home (and resident area also) for thousands of Snow Geese, trumpeter Swan, a myriad of hawks, Dunlin a real interesting type of sandpiper and of course our nations symbol the Bald Eagle. I think we get the overflow from Vancouver Island. the Snow Geese literally cover acres of pastures. I have some pictures and I will put them on my blog soon. One of my favorite birds are the Kingfishers. Have fun next month, Florence.
Kingfishers are so neat. They always loudly announce their return in the spring and they nest in our river bank. I can't wait for all the spring birds to return. I listened to a little junco singing his heart out this morning...must be getting close to that time of year again.
