I love canning chicken and having it on the pantry shelves. It makes harvest meals really quick to throw together, or if I Am out of sandwich fixings I can make a quick chicken salad. I also can venison after hunting season for quick meals. Just wandered through the garden and it looks like it needs to be a pickling day, I filled my basket with cucumbers, enough green beans for supper and a bowl of cherry tomatoes and another of raspberries.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

I just finished canning our tomatoes. Here in Florida, when it reaches this time of year, the gardens are mostly done. Had a small tomato bed this year, but still got lots to eat and share, and 9 quarts stewed.

Hi Sara and all canners! I've had my nose to the grindstone lately. Much out door work. Yesterday I made 9 pints of pickles. Today I froze mustard greens and made 6 pints of hot dog relish. Not a huge deal---but everything helps with the food bill. Always enjoy this and love to know what you ladies are canning. I don't really like to can----but I am very proud when it is in the jars.

Michelle---I admire you for canning the chicken. I could not do it and would cry and throw up. We are raising thirty chickens from babies and I can hardly eat chicken now.

Every little bit you can and preserve is a great help on the food bill, and it is so much better for you. I don't like butcher day for anything, but that is what they are for and they had a good life with us. My garden seems to be slow to ripen lately. No canning yet. I have jarred up some honey though this year.

Michelle, I didn't know you raised bees too. Having your own honey must be wonderful. My canning is on hold till cooler weather. So far I have passed up a ham bone for broth, garden cucumbers for pickles, and loads of green tomatoes. My sister's tomatoes are slow to ripen so she is forced to pick green before they rot on the vine.

Garlic-dill pickles and green beans came out of the canner today. Your right Michele, every little bit helps the food bill and it does add up quickly.

More pickles for me today. Sara---I too hate to can when it is hot, but I have no choice. It is hot here today with one hundred percent humidity. Plus hubby begged for a zucchini cake---it is in the oven now and I aam burning up. Crock pot supper though---so no cooking. Just green beans on the grill.

Even though it is hot, it is nice to get those veggies preserved. Good job everyone on canning in the heat. Sara, I have kept bees for

gosh darn this is the second time my response sent and I did not think i hit any keys. This time i just picked up my computer. Sorry. But I have kept bees for quite a few years. This year I am getting honey, the last few I have not. The other problem is overwintering, I have only had that happen once. But your own honey tastes so much better. lol And it is very interesting to watch them.

I canned up a small batch of relish. 4 pints. My ma had given me some bigger cucumbers, so they became relish. Mine have been very few and far between. I did get one 1/2 gallon of refrig pickles made from mine.

Thanks Sara, My ma gave me a small bucket of cucs tonight. We had to go up and check on fence, and well just got home a little bit ago. Managed to get stung by a ground bee/in a post bee. We went back with our bee jackets, gloves and hood on and a weed burner. Dirty buggers. So cucs will have to wait and I need to go to bed.
