A few weeks ago, I found two candles that were an apple cinnamon scent (see photo). Today, I took two plain canning jars and created fall themed labels, colored them in with colored pencils and made scrap bows. Now, I just need to get some kitty litter for the inside to place the candle in for security and also safety. Kinda cute, easy to make and I am looking forward to actually using them this fall on the kitchen table or outside on the porch.

Connie, if you see this, I couldn't wait another moment to start digging into some fall planning and crafting. LOL!! IN the AC of course!! I know you understand.

Anyone else out there secretly having a little pre-fall fun? That includes those of you who can grow pumpkins and gourds and have apple trees. Hehehe, Apples, don't even get me started. The ones in the grocery store have little flavor these days. Fortunately I am being distracted by all the berries and peaches!

Winnie how fun and cute. I'm so ready for fall. First the cooler weather and a very close second all the fall decorations.

I have used split peas, dried beans, or coffee beans at the bottom of a jar instead of the cat litter. Also all the way around the candle. Instant decorating.

Have a blessed day, Sara ~~~ FarmGirl Sister #6034 8/25/14

Sara, I love that idea of using the dried beans or coffee. Much prettier too! Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, think FALL! When it is cooler outside. But - if I made Fall or winter stuff early I keep asking myself - where would I put it until time to use it? LOL!

I like using the coffee beans - and then you get the softer scent, too, wafting in the air.

Winnie, too cute! I love all the seasons, but my mom has always been an autumn person, so we grew up with lots of autumn colors around the house. So I guess I'm nostalgic about fall. My BFF and music partner, Kate, is nuts about fall. Scenery full of trees with autumn leaves literally makes her cry. I may "borrow" your idea and make her a candle!

Happy Day!

those are so cute!

You can use so many things to hold up candles! In the Fall, I like to use dried corn or beans, as it still gives that Fall look. (I'm not a coffee drinker, but if you are, it would add a scent to it, wouldn't it? Which could be lovely... if you like coffee ;) hehehe). In the Spring I like to use jelly beans :) In the winter I switch it up depending on the color of the candle.. you can use rice for snow, green lentils or dried peas for red candles, or red candies for a green candle. In the summer, I like the water effect :) so I often use bluish rocks.

Thank-you everyone for so many great suggestions for placing inside the jar for holding up the candle. I never even thought about those options. See, just another example of all the Farmgirl Genius here on our MJF Chatroom!

I also love hearing that I am not alone in my love of all things Fall as my Family thinks I am a bit obsessed --LOL!! Having been born and raised in Charlottesville , Va. which is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Fall just gets into your DNA. Living all these years down here in Florida provides me with so many months of warm weather that I get really tired of it. So while our Spring starts in late February, with Summer by May, I am kinda over it all by July and wanting cooler days and a different change of pace. So, I have learned to craft fall themed things to feed my longing and sort of enjoy a Pre-Pre-Fall season, a Pre-season, and finally, come late September and October, Fall. Of course we are still very hot down here at that time, but the days are not as long and the nights are a bit cooler and you can see changes in the few deciduous trees that live here. And.......Pumpkin Spice Coffee is in the markets, Pumpkins are at the grocer, Mums are in full bloom at the nursery, and new crop apples are filling up the stores and road stands. I will keep you posted on the Pre-Pre-Season activities from the desk of Red Tractor Girl!! Please share with me and all of us what YOU are doing for the Pre-Pre-Fall Season. Inquiring minds want to know!! LOL!

I just lit one of my new jar candles and here it is. I decided on green split peas since they had a nice color that went with the bow and label. The bright light washes out a bit, but what do you think?

It looks prettier than the photo. You know, I am thinking they make super cute gifts because you can decorate the jar however needed with just scraps. You can also add those self flickering LED candle pillars for a safer option than a real candle. It is beginning to smell like cinnamon at my desk!!

Winnie so super cute. I agree with you and am beyond ready for fall but we are roasting here in North Carolina and it is still June! Ugh! I moved from Clearwater Florida to get away from the heat! And it has been hotter here than Florida, oh and the humidity! I keep saying positive attitude, positive attitude. So your little candles were a delightful sight. Maryellen

Thanks everyone for your sweet comments! You know, I got to thinking about looking for some old jars at antique places or junk shops and turning them into candle jars. You know the kind of jars I am talking about? All old and cloudy with eons of neglect in some old barn that leaked?? LOL!! As you can tell from my label graphics, I am drawn to the Primitive look and style. These jars are spankin brand new. The good thing is that the label and bow can easily removed if I can find any old jars. I know of this junk place that has tables and tables of dishes and stuff out in the open. People just come and pick over rained on stuff.I have been a few times and found some really cute vintage treasures. But you have to be patient and look. Plus it is in full sun and miserable hot out there right now. However, it might be a good challenge for early in the day. It would be a perfect Farmgirl outing if only one lived close by!!

Your jars are great Winnie. We are having fall like temps here this morning. A great break for the summer heat. I love fall too and here the trees turn beautiful reds, oranges , yellows and burgundies in late Sept. And October. Mason jars would work for your jars too. Keep up the good work.

Winnie! Those ARE great! I just love them! I just wanted to add my two cents: I've used rice in the bottom of candle jars for years! :) <I'm missing autumn, too!> Thank you for sharing! GREAT job! Hugs - Nini

Winnie, Those are so sweet! Love the idea. I am a Fall person too! Just love all the beautiful colors of fall. You have my mind churning for ideas now.
Love the smells of the autumn season too. I think that is why I love red in my kitchen, because it works year round. I have loads of the old canning jars the kind with the bail wire tops.
I was at Tractor Supply yesterday and they had the cutest milk bottles there. After that I went to Big Lots and they had cute little 8 oz milk bottles used for drinking glasses. I didn't get them but I may have to go back. I am thinking I could do something with them for fall.

With getting ready to move, I didn't decorate for the 4th of July or Summer. I think after we get settled, I am going to decorate for Fall. Surely if I thi cooler thoughts, it will help us get through the heat, lol
