1st my husband-now my son. Really bad stomach flu with every GI symptom imaginable.

Sheesh.....

I'm the last "man" standing at our house right now and I am dreading the thought of having to go through this. Any tried and true preventive measures or is it too late?

Went through the house with Lysol spraying everything that didn't move and scrubbed the bathrooms. I am very diligent regarding washing my hands but I suppose if you are next in line there really isn't anything one can do to side step a stomach bug....

Grape juice lots for 3 days should give you enough of the good mojo in your gut.

wash all bedding in hot water, including your pillows, replace all toothbrushes, clean all hairbrushes and combs, put a drop or more of bleach in while washing dishes...and most of all, plenty of fluids, and if possible open some windows..

Organic apple cider vinegar was recommended for me. The one with the "mother" in it! Braggs is one brand, I find it at Walmart

Melody, lots of hand washing is your best defense! Stomach bugs are passed hand to mouth, not in the air so you have to make sure not to scratch your eyes, rub your nose or potentially get any virus from your hands onto a mucous membrane. So, paper towels to dry your hands, cleaning of sink surfaces, hot water to wash all dishes and throw in some alcohol hand cleanser for any moment you put your hands somewhere that might not be clean like door knobs or other surfaces. Try and keep people who are sick in the bedrooms and away from common areas. Keep their bed linens washed and any cups etc isolated from everyone and everything else. Having been a nurse for 34 years, I can say with experience that hand washing and isolation are the best ways to contain this virus. Good LUUCK!!

Oh my goodness, Melody... We had that a couple of months ago, and boy was it miserable. For us, it only lasted a couple of days, though, thank goodness. Right now, I'm going on my third week with this nasty respiratory flu. I just can't shake it. There's a plus side, though - I know I've definitely lost a couple of pounds! Just in time for spring, right? ;)

I'm definitely one to wash our sheets daily and dry on the sanitize cycle when we're sick. We also cover the pillows with soft bath towels to double protect them. I also am big about pitching the toothbrushes. If you can't pitch the toothbrushes, then by all means soak them in rubbing alcohol and rinse well. And like Winnie said, pay careful attention to surface areas in the house, wash hands regularly and well, and remind people not to touch their faces. We also flush tissues instead of letting them sit in the trash and grow bacteria (probably not the best thing to do when it comes to the pipes, but...). Also, clean your faucets well - the spigot, specifically. My hair has curled watching people touch their glasses and cups to the edge and end of the spigot on the kitchen faucet and water filter... Yuck...'Nothing like adding germs on a nice, moist surface, eh?

We also drink different types of teas when we're sick - Holy Basil (helps with cold and flu symptoms, purifies the blood), elderberry (respiratory aid), ginger (natural antibiotic properties), mint (for an upset stomach), honey and lemon (to soothe the throat)... And I will definitely crush raw garlic, another natural antibiotic, mix it with honey and suck it down for good measure. The only thing is, if you are taking an antibiotic, check with the pharmacist to make sure any of the teas and supplements you want to take are okay. OH! And plenty of chicken broth and soup - there is definitely some science to back up that old wives' tale!!!

Please take care of yourself and get plenty of rest, too, okay? I hope you're all feeling better soon!

Hugs -

Nini
