I am not posting this to my blog because my computer is being difficult in it's old age...
We went thrifting today because I wanted to find a pair of boots for Zoe, as I can't see spending $20 on a pair of boots at Target that she will only wear for a few times and for a few months....
Anyway, here is what I got:
2 12" embroidery hoops, two wool sweaters, one for Rob andone for me, a shirt and pants of women's long underwear with butterflies all over...yellow butterflies!! boots for Zoe, a shawly with really pretty fishtail looking finishing on the end, footie jammies for Grace....I spent 6.50. WOOO HOOO.
Bad news, I smashed my finger in the truck door when I was shutting Grace in and almost didn't go because this really ishy wave of dizzy and nausea came over me....it was not fun.
I have another thrift adventure from a week or so ago as well, that I never posted about. When the house was full of sickies, Zoe and I went off to my favorite thrift store, Castoffs, and got the following: 2 twin size hand sewn quilts (I am going to mend them and sew them together for my bed, just as soon as they are done airing out on the clothes line.....one or two more days should do the trick,) a cloth doll, two window stained glass pictures...one is particularly pretty. It has a pretty rose in the middle and the whole this is oval and about12" from top to bottom. LOVE IT!, I also got: two really nice quilted pot holders, two embroidered pillowcases, 4 cloth napkins, two hankies, a small table runner, a wooden rack with 5 kitchen tools attached on hooks and a copy of 'To Kill A Mockingbird" OOOOOOOH! And a vintage shearling coat. I originally picked it up for Rob, but it didn't fit him by just this much and so I GET IT!!! WOOO HOOO!!!! Ill post a picture of all of that stuff later....it really is a nice photo...and you HAVE to see the quilts....
good thrifting had by all...

Tasha- Nice haul! Lucky you to get the shearling coat, they are so warm. Can't wait to see pics of all your goodies, sounds like you did all right for yourself! I will eventually figure out how to post pics one of these days and share the East Coast version! What pattern are your quilts?

Great finds.
Not too many thrift stores around here. When we go and visit the kids in Lincoln at school, my mom and I always hit 3 or 4. |

Okay, here are the pictures....not of today's stuff but of the other stuff...
the quilts
the whole lot
just ignore the stained floor. Ihave kids who are klutzes like their mother and we are looking for every reason to rip up the carpet and re-finish the floors beneath.
the pillowcases
the pot holders
the stained glass and cloth doll
and.....the shearling
and a funny yet tragic story....see these?
well.....I took a couple of clear Christmas ornaments that I got with a box of craft stuff(lots....thrifting again...only 2.00!) and I hot melt glued buttons all over them. They turned out super cute and I was so excited about them. I took them outside to show Rob. I held them out to show him and first we see the left one fall and crash on the ground, we look at each other in disbelief as the second one crashes to the ground. We just stared at each other and the ground, back and forth. ROb asked if that really just happened. I was sad and picke dup my glass and buttons and went back inside, determined to buy some clear bulbs and make some more. :(

Tasha- your quilts are very nice! Very "farmhouse"! As for the sad fate of your button balls...what about plastic? That way they will be a lasting memory for the girls and you can save them more easily. (Or being truly thrifty, if you have any old christmas balls ( non breakable of course!) that you could re-purpose. You know that ugly ornament you get in a swap that you smile and say "just loooovely!" Nice stuff, good for you! PS...Is your doll signed by Martha? She looks like the dolls a friend of mine used to make but she lived in Lancaster, PA. with a happy heart |

My guess at what happened is the weight of the buttons was more than the little metal prongs could support and dropped the ball. If my guess is right the metal caps where still on the string but the ball wasn't. Either buy hand blown glass ones where the glass forms the hanger or super glue that cap to that ball or it will keep happening.
update I corrected a typing error I am sure you have no idea what sugar glue is but super glue you might. Weird a little letter changes the hole thing
have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe my blog http://sunshinescreations.blogspot.com my web stores www.sunshines.etsy.com and http://vintagethreads.etsy.com |

Tasha -- What a tragic story! I love your idea of the button ornaments . . . couldn't you (or me) use a regular ornament rather than clear glass? I've got tons of old Target ornaments around that I craft with occasionally. . . . or sometimes just mound up in old cut crystal bowls on the mantel. Anyway -- great thrifting, great crafting! |

Tasha...great thrifting...that coat is so cool, and the quilts. I love thrift stores, but they make Eldon crazy, SO..I usually go thrifting when I take a little break from the house and kids. I tell him he should feel lucky. Most women take a break and go shopping at the mall. I only spend $20 and others spend $200!!
I hope your computer gets better, I have been watching your blog..... Kate

Great pictures Tasha, such pretty quilts, and you have some nice embroidery. The Christmas bulbs with buttons is a cute idea, when I first looked at them it looked like the buttons were on the inside.Might have to try you idea. NANCY JO

Oh Tasha! Great finds! I especially love the pillow cases-so soft to sleep on, and also the potholders! My Mom had a set of wooden utensils exactly like those hanging in our kitchen at home! I've always lamented their disappearance after my parents divorce. I love the little pie crimper. :)The coat is a beauty too! Rhonda

Hooray for you, Tasha! You really got a super warm winter coat. And for only $2.00! My favorites are the embroidered pillow cases-never enough vintage linens. I've dressed myself, my dh and my son from thrift stores for the past 30 something years. I nearly faint when I go into a mall store and look at the price tags! I don't know how people who don't shop in thrift stores can afford to buy clothes(not to mention all the other cool/useful stuff I find there).

OOOOH, Tasha, so sorry about the finger in the door incident. Hopefully your terrific hauls will lessen the throbbing. Love those dishtowels in particular, and what a neat idea for old buttons! Great job. Nance |
