My 15-y-o daughter always says, "I want to do a swap" whenever I get something from a swap partner in the mail.

So, I'm wondering if any of you have kids who would want to do a swap. My daughter isn't a farmerette or anything, just a girl who would love to both send something and receive something.

Here's what I'm thinking, though I'm open to suggestions:

In the spirit of encouraging independence, this would be largely done by the young person. Thus he/she would pick out items or make the items and pack swap items (with supervision). I'm generally thinking ages 12-18, though open to hearing what people think.

The swap items would include
1) a letter or note
2) something handmade (let's encourage arts and crafts)
3) something that represents the sender
4) something chosen for the recipient based on a short description posted here.

So my daughter (Ava) loves to downhill ski, likes to read, plays piano, wears a lot of bracelets, and is itching to travel to Wales and Colorado.

How about sign up until March 15.
Send out swaps by April 15

Here are swap partners:
Joyce (9-year-old) --- Denise (Elisabeth - age 10)
Kelly (11-year-old) --- Shannon (Katie - age 11)
Jenny (Molly - age 14) --- Denise (Ava - age 15)
Wendy (Paige - age 14) --- Kelly (13-y-o)

My Daughter is 14 and she likes doing swaps also. She likes doing the themed ones. A Rabbit Themed one would be cool.

Can I ask where she does swaps? I don't even know where to look for them in her age range!

I think my daughter would be up for a themed swap!

How fun, Denise! My daughter is sad she's not old enough yet - but I do hope that it works out, as it's a fabulous idea :)

I have two daughters whom both would love to participate. I have one who's 13 and one who's 11 but she turns 12 in a couple of months. They would love any kind of swap.

If you decide to lower the age, I have an 11 yo that would love to join! If not, I truly understand and will not mention it to her! She just enjoys making things and mailing them to people :)

Hello.
I have a 13-year old (14 in two weeks). She'd love to join the swap. Her name is Molly.
She's into Broadway, does theater, sings, reads, and plays field hockey. She also loves cats.
Whatever you decide as a final idea, we're game. Thanks.

God has a bigger plan for me than I have for myself.

Yay!! I'm so glad there are a few takers on this. Our daughters will be excited to put something together.

We've got some time, so hopefully we'll get some more young swappers set up!!

So how many girls do we have now. I would say 10 and up. Younger ones can get help from mom.

We have

Ava -15 Denise - Farmgirl #1976
Paige-14 Wendy- Farmgirl #
13 Kelly- Farmgirl #5111
11 Kelly-Farmgirl #5111
Katie 11 Shannon- Hudsonsinaf
Molly 14 Jenny- Farmgirl #4359

6 yay that is an even number.

What kind of swap are we thinking. Easter Themed, Animal Themed, Maybe more Pen Pal style and each girl makes a box about themselves and what they like?
Maybe a craft they've made?

What are y'all thinking?

We are fine with anything. Molly enjoys pen pals or crafting. We could do a spring theme and maybe have them
pick a craft they are good at making...just a thought. This is such a nice idea.

I like the idea of a SPRING theme - that gives the girls plenty of room to interpret - could be pastels, flowers, greens, etc.

I had set the end date for March 31 - maybe that's too late??

Otherwise, I just like the idea of them making something for someone (from the hints provided by the moms) and then including a little something that represents themselves (maybe a drawing, a pin, favorite candy bar, a picture of them, a bit or bob of a collection, ---the possibilities are endless).

I'm just so excited we have 6 girls interested right now. My daughter will be so happy. And just another FYI - I also have a 10-year-old, so if there are any more readers who have a 9-11 year old, I could add in my Elisabeth.

Hi Joyce,
How old is your daughter. We now have some 11-y-o girls. And I have a 10-y-o who would play too.
Let me know.

This sounds awesome. Excited for the girls to make new friends.
So are we going with the 31st? Spring theme?
Thanks.

Hi Ladies,
I changed the sign-up date to....yesterday because there haven't been any takers in the last week and a half, and people seems ready to get this started.

Let's still give the girls a "deadline" of April 15 (or earlier). That gives them time to craft something they want to send.

Here are swap partners:
Joyce (9-year-old) --- Denise (Elisabeth - age 10)
Kelly (11-year-old) --- Shannon (Katie - age 11)
Jenny (Molly - age 14) --- Denise (Ava - age 15)
Wendy (Paige - age 14) --- Kelly (13-y-o)

Since we don't know all the girls' names, let's start there. Be sure to give a brief description of what the girl likes.

Joyce, I didn't get your email!
But I have our girls listed as partners. In that spirit, my Elisabeth is 10 years old. She loves to sing, make crafts she finds on the internet, make desserts, and hang out with her friends. She's my most social child! For sports she skis, plays basketball, and will be giving softball a go this spring. Her favorite book series is the Doll People.
