Today it was discovered we have or had a bee tree. Our son was clearing in the pasture and pushed over a tree yesterday. Well, he discovered the hive this afternoon. They were in the top of the dead tree. So he improvised a box till we can get a proper box. Don't know what the species is yet. He picked up honeycombs and found a big ball of bees and carefully put them in the temporary box. Really hoping we can get them established.
Betty, I do hope the bees take to their new home. Bees need every break they can get and we sure do need them in our gardens & orchards. Let us know if you find out what kind of bee they are.

Yes, we need our pollinators. Since I had already began working on the badge "The Secret Life of Bees" this came along at a good time. I have already read the book. It was a good read! Now waiting to read the second one. We have had bees in the past at our old homeplace and am now really excited to get them here!
Yes, it does seem lately my badge work has been going along with things I am currently involved in. I am now brainstorming on what to make with some of the honeycomb. My son brought in a piece that was really clean and new. So it seems we now have the family interested in all what bee keeping is all about! Hubby and I can't eat the honey but our kids and grandkids can. The taste is really sweet and mild. Of course for me I will use some in my honey oatmeal soaps!
