Hi all,
I am new to the "Farmgirl Connection". Thought I would start off by asking what kinds of activities you girls take up when the snow flies?
I have horrible tendinitis and I have been banished from crocheting, sewing, baking, etc. Caring for the animals actually seems like a huge chore right now as it takes me forever to move two flakes of hay out of the barn lol and I repeat this at least 4 times... but when I get done I take a break and then I get my snowshoes out.
I am at least able to use my left hand, but it made it hard to cross country ski so I chose to start snowshoeing. I have started taking my camera along too. The landscape is blanketed with snow, everything is so quiet, and appears so clean and peaceful. I just love it!
Do you snow shoe? What are your top 3 winter activities of choice? Lets see them.

Ashley, I'm so sorry to hear how much the tendinitis in your hands are affecting your life so much. I do hope the pain will go away soon for you.
I love winter, providing it isn't too cold to go outside and play in the snow. I live by the Morton Arboretum and work there as a volunteer all year long. Hiking in the woods and monitoring the trail I take care of there is a one of my favorite things to do. I have an 11 year old son and we both love to go sledding on the hills behind our townhouse. If we get another good snow without the frigid temperatures soon, I plan to teach my son how to cross country ski. Like you, I love taking pictures of nature all year long.
Hopefully my Windy Pines cousin, Michele, will see this thread. She's a farmer and snowshoes or skis regularly at her farm in northwestern, WI. She never has a shortage of snow up there!

Well, you are handling the tendinitis in true farm girl style by stepping up and finding something new to do. Good for you. Keeping busy and learning new skills will make you a bit less unhappy about what you miss being able to do. I hope the inflammation calms down some and you can get back to some of your other favorite activities.

Winter in southwest Colorado has had less snow than is usual, common and necessary. We have been suffering severe drought for a few years.
But, when we we have adequate snow I like to cross-country ski and just started snowshoeing a couple years ago.
I'm a power walker and have been for many, many years and I still get out and do that every day, no matter what the weather!

Thank you for responding! This message board helps me pass the time as well, and of course I am hoping to make some new friends! ;-)
I loved reading your posts, and learning about your winter hobbies.
Dawn, I think it is really neat that you are planning to teach your son to cross country ski. Our world is so technologically warped these days we have a tendency to forget the great big beautiful world outside of that.
Mar, it wasn't easy at first, giving up my other hobbies, but I knew I had to do something. I did read and try to watch TV for the first four days but I felt like I was going to climb the walls lol. Thank you for responding. I hope it clears up soon too!
CJ, I have always wanted to visit Colorado. It is unfortunate - the many negative ways this drought has affected everyone. On a brighter note I can't wait to check out your aprons and blog! ;-)

When you live in a snow climate, you might as well learn to enjoy it! ha that is what I say. I cross country ski, and snow shoe now adays. I used to down hill ski too. I enjoy getting out in the woods and seeing all the different tracks in the snow. The last time I went I saw turkey, coyote, deer, and bird tracks. I love seeing the feather patterns in the snow from a bird taking off or landing. Just nice to get out there and enjoy.
