A couple years ago, my vision was so bad I felt as if my world was shrinking to the size of the space in which I could see. I had to walk with my head down to keep from tripping. I was still sewing and I used a few tricks to get the needle threaded. I will share them here.
1) Put something white behind the needle's hole. It will be easier to see. 2) Lick the needle instead of the thread. The liguid on the needle will grad the dry thread and draw it in. 3) Take the needle out of the sewing machine and thread it like a handsewing needle.
I have had surgery on my eyes and am now able to see better without my glasses than I could before with them. I am so happy to be able to once more do complicated counted cross stitch projects. I hope these tips help.

Hey Marie, thanx for the helpful tips... I m at a point where I have to use a magnifying glass,,... and yep the 'white' background and good lighting really helps. I never tried the 'wet the needle' rather than the thread... I will have to give that a try...
Juanita,,, I truly understand,,, how "Life can get in the way of Life"... trying to eak out a few minutes to ones self can be challenging and discouraging... but don't give up... Even just allowing yourself 5-10min to relax and thumb through a crafty (or any favorite) magazine is good for you. I really have to try and stay focused... other wise I get distracted very easy... Kind of like 'Ferdinand the Bull' who would get distracted when he spotted a Daisy in the field! Yep! that's me! lol!

OK... and the good news is... I finished up the Decanter,
I stitched, cut and sewed the Christmas table runner, now I just need to stitch on the side bands and backing...
and I finished up the 'Wine' apron,
I do have the Daisy Kingdom Pinni cut out, I just need another quiet afternoon to stitch it up.. At least I am making some headway...

Updating my UFOs to 2 pottery birdhouses that need to be re-strung so I can hang them. They've been hiding under the bathroom sink way too long.

Good job Grace. You are an inspiration. Think of the Peekie as your assistant who reminds you to take breaks.

Today was a great day to 'Getterdone"... Now here is my question... If I partially get a UFO done, and start another (new) project... does that mean I have fallen off the wagon??? lol! So I finished (sort of) the little flannel quilt,,, but I couldn't find any flannel for the backing in my stash... Then I decided to make a Mug Rub from some bits left over,,, even though it wasn't on my UFO list.. at least I got it done.. http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2015/01/DSCF2599(1).JPG[/IMG)
Then I sewed up my Daisy Kingdom apron~pinni... so that is off my list.
And then I started another project that was not on my UFO... had enough scrap fabric to stitch up a Quilt apron,,, but in typical Grace fashion,,, I am shy the fabric needed to make the waist band and ties sashes... So now it will go on my UFO list... wait! Am I suppose to be adding to my list? lol!

oops! forgot to show this pic of the apron...
I need to take a swatch of fabric to find the perfect color fabric for the waistband & sashes..., I am sort of leaning toward the Tangerine color... I wasn't real fond of the exposed back side so I decided to line the apron rather than just use Binding all around the apron... much clean looking that way.
And now to relax, small glass of wine and a pile of circle fabric to stitch up into YoYos... What a great way to end the evening... what a great day!... That being said, I need to say 'Thanks" to my hubby who went Metal Detecting all day so I had the house to myself!

Love love love that quilt apron! What a neat idea!
I keep adding to my UFO list! I am hoping to stop by Joann's after church today to pick up a couple things to finish a few projects though. We'll see how successful I am at crossing things off the list without adding more!

Grace, think of your new UFOs as artist sketches. Before they finish a painting they are already making sketches for new ones. That's all - your creative mind is just faster than your hands and your pile of UFOs is your sketch book.

I need to be on this list. My craft room is a mess right now. It was turned into Santa's workshop over the holidays and I desperately need to buy another tote for Christmas wrapping so I can completely de-Christmas my room. After that happens though, I have quite a few UFO's to tackle.
1. Curtains that I have fabric for that I need to make for our living room 2. 2 'workpants' quilts I've been cutting to make for my sons (I've never made a quilt before, I think that is my hang up, but my mom has assured me that this one is easy) 3. Various simple cross stitch projects 4. A pile of clothes for a t-shirt quilt that I want to try 5. a dress pattern I have cut out 6. some merit badges I need to embroider
I'm sure the list could go on and on. Can't wait to get into some of these UFO's, but first, I need to clean the room!

I finished my first luggage tag (thanks to Grace) with merit badge. It's hanging on my pantry door to remind me to check the dates on what's brewing inside. I trimmed it out with buttons.
I sewed it my hand so it should help me earn another badge. I remember reading something about stringing buttons to make different things for a badge. What if I made a button fringe for the luggage tag? Might be okay for another merit badge. I really like how one thing leads to another here on the Farm Connection.

Just found this post and already feeling the need to "get started". I am sitting at my craft table looking at the pile of UFO's !! So please add my name to your list.... you all will be my inspiration to getting some things done. Nothing new will be started until I get this pile gone.... did I really just say that !?! Thanks for being an inspiration!

Hi, y'all! I need a kick in the pants to get my UFOs done. I have a cross stitch bookmark to finish, a t-shirt yarn rug to crochet, I need to cut and install a new wood table top for our tiny pop up camper, and I need to keep tumbling rocks I collected on our last vacation. And make new bracelets and necklaces with the ton of beads I can't resist buying.
Tomorrow it will rain so I can tackle the cross stitching.

Juanita, I know what you mean about cleaning the sewing room. Mine is a mess! I think cleaning of the craft/sewing room falls into the category of UFO's!!!!!
Grace, I think your UFO Fairies stop by my place when they are not in your sewing room! Every time I think I've found all of the UFO's new ones show it's face!!! ARGGGGGGG
Good news: sweater is done! Now on to my DGS fishing pool. When he was only a couple weeks old I found an old Mickey Mouse Fishing pole at a yard sale. All it needs is cleaned up and new line. So that will be my next UFO.

Oh Linda, Luv the sweater... and thank goodness the UFO Fairies are at your place,,, I need a Break from them!!! lol!
But I did manage to finish up 2 UFO's (completely)... Got the waist band & sashes on the quilt apron, and put the backing on the little flannel Tea Quilt/sampler...
sashes done!
backing Done!
and I had all the best of intentions of backing & binding my crazy Christmas mini quilt when,,, "Ferdinand the Bull" took me by the hones and side tract me.. gee, there's a surprise! lol!
SO I stopped for a bit (on UFO's) and started a new non-UFO project, I know... I know... I made a little potpourri hanger,,, I used scrap netting, lace, bits-n-pieces and recycled my Holiday potpourri... now my coat closet will smell nice... I just used my handy dandy glue gun for this project... (front) (back) nothing fancy, just needed a break from my sewing machine...
I leave for Spokane, WA., on Tuesday for a much needed grand-kiddo fix, so I may be 'quiet' here on the MJF fourm,,, but when I get back near the end of the month,,, Look Out UFO's Here I come!! lol!
