Well, my hen girls and my rooster boy (Nugget, Spot, Fluffy, and Peep) are now one year old! I managed to fight off red-tailed hawks, crafty foxes, creepy coyotes, and they have made it to the one year mark! I got them a year ago when they were just two days old. They are really more like pets, not farm animals. :/

They give us eggs every day (so far, no one has dropped off their production) and I love how they cluck and purr at me. My chickens make me happy.

Any other girls feel the same with their chickens?

Oh my gosh, Nicole! Time flew! (No pun intended! Do they even fly? They don't really FLY fly, do they?) It seems like just the other day you were telling the story of them being all over your garage and the mess they made! LOL! What a wonderful year of learning and growing you have all shared together! :) Congratulations on their birthday and your one year anniversary of being a chicken mama! I'm so happy for you! Hugs - Nini

They DO fly Nini, (ask me how I know that), and we now have 7 ft deer fencing.
Nicole, I expected you to say you had made them a birthday cake. HA!

Hee Hee, Lisa, I thought about it...

Settling on a warm pot of oatmeal, just for them.

Aaaw, that is so neat Nicole! Isn't exciting when you watch your animals grow and reach that one year mark? Congratulations! :)

We have one hen that will be hitting the 3 year mark in March. We got her and her sister when they were 3 months old because they bullied the rest of the flock. Well the sister died last year. Who knows why--she was fine on Wednesday, but dead Thursday morning. We buried her under our Apple tree. Her Magisty (the left over sister), seemed to mour her for a few days, then just went on. We moved to Tennesee last year in April and in September she started moulting. She hasn't laid an egg since. But, we don't care. She is out pet. Sometimes we call her a feathered rat, because all she does is eat & eat and no eggs. We do love listening to her cluck & purr when she's happy. She actually gets along with our 2 dogs--a Jack Russell and a rat terrier/Chihuahua mix.
I've heard that chickens can live 5-7 years or even longer!
We're getting more chickens in the spring, but keeping Her Magisty in her own little chicken palace. We just love chickens & rabbits. We may get a couple of ducks too. Just to watch them. #128019;#128019;#128019;#128007;#128007;#128000;#128035;#128037;#128036;#128020;#8252;#65039;

Hugs and Squishies!!

Our first set of 6 chickens will be a year old next month! Wow that time flew by! One of the 6 has to be by herself... she gets picked on and bullied by the ones her age, and bullies the younger three we have, lol. I've thought about making a seed cake for the chickens... hubby doesn't seem to be game for it though, lol.
