The new hens are just starting to lay and whoo-boy am I glad! We went through a little dry spells while the old girls were molting. Looks like omelets are back on the breakfast table at Estle Schipp Farm!

I get fresh laud eggs whenever we stop at a fellow farmer who raises chickens, I'm amazed at all the/different colors of the eggs....he even had eggs that were green....weird. he/says it depends on what you feed them.but they were the/tastiest and freshest eggs I have/ever had....and they are free.....free is the best offer there is....well, i give him fresh baked goods when I ave them.j

I put a cabbage in the coop today to give the chickens something to do and it was like a raucous game of tetherball...I mean, cabbage ball. LOL

One of our chickens laid the largest egg I have ever seen from a chicken. It won't even fit in the carton!

Your cabbage ball idea is brilliant. I can't wait to try it! It's also fun to give them cooked spaghetti noodles and watch them gobble them up. Who says we don't know how to have fun on a farm?

So happy you're getting eggs. It's always a happy moment when you realize you can start baking and cooking omelets again.

The first time I gave my hens a cabbage they all kind of huddled in the corner until the brave one, Tabasco, ventured out to peck it. Now, they gather at my feet when they see me with one. I love how if one gets a big chunk, she runs away with it and others try to steal it.

It never occurred to me to give my chickens cabbage. I've given them broccoli and had the egg whites slightly tinged green. I thought if I gave them beets they might be tinged pink and I could sell them as designer eggs...tee hee.

I love the cabbage idea too. My hens and ducks are loving frozen chunks of squash right now. It helps to cool them off and keeps them moving around from one shaded area to another. It's funny to watch a duck pick up a frozen chunk then run to the pond and drop it in.
We got 6 chicks in March & they are finally laying. We have a couple of Easteregger crosses, so it's like an Easter egg hunt every day.

We're hoping the ducks start laying pretty soon. We got 12 ducklings when we got the hens. We planned on selling duck eggs at our local farmers market, but they're just not laying yet. We have 3 drakes who have been jumping the girls, but still nothing. We were hoping for more ducklings too.

Hugs and Squishies!!

We love our really fresh eggs and we'll never go back to store bought. We are gathering in 6 eggs a day. At least 3 are duck eggs. Maybe 4! We only have 3 hens laying. The other 3 hens are only 4 months old & won't start laying for another month or so. I wonder what we'll be doing with all those eggs. I can only bake just do many cookies!

Hugs and Squishies!!
