I have this wonderful homemade Kahlua recipe a friend gave me back in college. I have made it several times over the years for christmas gift baskets. To bottle it I use glass bottles with the porclean cork attached with metal. I usually can re-use bottles from the french lemonade I buy at Trader Joes - those work great.

Here is the recipe -

3 cups sugar
2 1/2 cups water
2 oz jar instant coffee (heaping 1/4 cup)

Bring top ingredients to a boil. Take off heat and add 1 pint 80 proof brandy (cheap stuff works great) and add 1 vanilla bean. Let cool. Put in sealed container and let age for 30 days.

After 30 days, remove vanilla bean. Add a 1/2 pint more of brandy and 1 to 4 oz vanilla extract to taste.

Bottle up and give as gifts. Shake before serving.

This is the best recipe I have found that is a close match to store bought Kahlua.
