We're looking into getting bees this next Spring and I was wondering if anyone had any advice? I'm also looking at where to buy Russian bee packages as there are very few online I could find that have colder weather bees? We plan on doing top bar hives. I can't wait to make homemade candles, salves, and other goodies with beeswax and honey!

www.mnbeekeepers.com/ these people could probably help you find the bees you want and any other tip on keeping bees over the long winters that you have.

Check with your local County Extension Office. They will have info that is specific to your area. Plus, there may be a group that has meetings.
Do a google search for your state's beekeeping association. The association probably has yearly conventions and a list of members/vendors.

Our County Extension has a beekeeping group of about 200 members. We have monthly meetings, mentors, and all members have access to use the club's extractor and other equipment. Very cool!

I'm just a beginner, too. I've been going to the meetings I mentioned for over a year and just got my first hive this past year. That's why I didn't give much more advice than what I did. I don't have enough knowledge to offer. But, one day I will!!!
