November 11 is Veteran's Day. Let us all remember our veterans and all our military on their special day. We should thank them and keep them close to our hearts.
The cemetary near us puts up dozens of American flags on Memorial Day, the 4th of July and Veteran's Day to do just that- remind us of those who have fought and are fighting for our freedom. It is the most breathtaking sight as you come around the corner, to see them waving in the breeze. We drive by every chance we get.
Ours does that too! And our little town has main street lined with dozens of flags on those days too. I love it! I think the cemetary is so touching though!!
I was just thinking about my dear Uncle Marshall. He served in WWII and in Luxembourg was severely wounded. His buddy put his fist in the wound in his chest to stop the bleeding.
Just this past Wednesday he had to put his wife in a nursing home because of her Alzheimers. Life is hard sometimes isn't it.
Tonite I will dine with veterans at the local American Legion and my dad and his fellow legioners. It's always fun- and memorable. They have a local band come out and they pay all the songs from the WWII era for the whole meal and dancing afterwards. But the best part is when the band plays all the miltary anthems and each veterans stands for applause when his miltary anthem is played. And last but not least - it is a mini family reunion -some of my various cousins will be their also - so along with my dad representing the WWII generation-Some cousins are from the Korean and Vietnam era and Irag conflict/war
I'm sure across the nation - each community will also be celebrating their Veterans. My dad just left to go to the local township building and some farmers are making them a breaksfast and the entertainment will be from the local girl scouts and boy scouts. (I only know because last year I stopped in to check in on dad and I said to some farmers - what are you doing here and they said we are the designated cooks and farm fresh delivery people......
Hubby is working, as are most of our guys here on post. They're in the middle of a training rotation. I'm not sure what they have planned on post or in town.

ps... it makes me sad though that we've gotten away from big parades and thank you's in most of the country. Normally Memorial Day is bigger on post even, and we attend services at the National Cemetary if we have one. But living veterans need to be honored more........it's easy to feel very forgotten and we should never forget the cost of our freedom.
