Today, I finished the Clothespin Apron shown in MaryJane's Idea book. It was such a simple pattern to follow and even I was able to get it to turn out! When I saw this pattern 3 years ago, I just loved it and I didn't even have a clothesline. Now, I have a clothesline and with this apron, I won't have to be reaching for the pins or trying to hold them in my mouth or clipped to my shirt. After I was done, I decided to add a touch of embroidery to the pocket tops and I think it added a nice touch.

Honestly, I took these photos on my iPhone using the suggested landscape view, made sure they were right side up, saved them on my computer where they are right side up AND THEY POST ON THIS SITE UPSIDE DOWN!! What is up with this?? I have tried all the Farmgirl tips and sometimes they still are wonky> ugh!
Anyhoo, you get the drift while standing on your head. This pattern takes just 1 yard of 45 inch fabric and matching thread. So easy and cost effective too. I was thinking as I made it that it would make a cute Christmas present to someone who uses a clothesline. Also, with all the pockets, it would be a great garden apron if you made it from some sturdy denim. A person could easily put gloves and small items in the generous pockets or fresh eggs and veggies if you didn't have a basket close by. With the gathered waist, one size will fit any size person so you don't have to have a specific pattern for each person.
With our current weather patterns, it is raining off and on everyday and not giving enough hours you can depend on to dry clothes on the line. Plus it is very humid and nothing dries well even if it doesn't rain. However, we will get drier weather come mid October and I will be able to enjoy my new apron while hanging clothes outside.

You did a lovely job and the colors and embroidery compliment one another beautifully!

Winnie, That is beautiful! I love the fabric you chose to use. Looks nice and sturdy to hold those clothespins. Embroidery adds a sweet touch too.

Thank-you! It was a nice easy and quick project which I do better with than a big long drawn out project. I have been giving the hole thing on laundry an upgrade since I retired last summer and have more time to research and try new ideas. Making my own laundry detergent and then using wool dryer balls were my first changes. The recipe for the detergent has been listed here on the forum and in MaryJane's magazines. It is very easy to do and does last a nice long time. Plus, I do add 1/2 cup white vinegar to my rinse cycle. Clothes do come out smelling fresh and clean. I have tried using both Fels Naptha and Kirk's Castile soap in the batches and I believe that Fels Naptha gives me the best results for really dirty clothes from yard work.
I am looking forward to using my clothesline again when weather permits!

I really like your apron and the embroidery is a special touch. I recently treated myself to the Mary Jane Idea book, I will need to look for the pattern. currently I use a reusable grocery bag, it is not nearly as pretty as the apron, and I need to keep bending over for the pins. Thank you for sharing.
