Hey Farmgirls~ We are deep into hot and humid down here in Florida. Lots of rain, heat, humidity. Repeat. Rinse. Repeat.
So, I go to JoAnn Fabric the other day and was greeted with scarecrows, pumpkins, and all the fall flowers and accessories!! It was wonderful! Honestly, I am getting a bit tired of the heat and humidity and looking forward to my favorite season of Fall.
But, since that is a few months away, I resisted getting anything yet except this.....
Ahhhh, the hope of things to come!!
I have it sitting on my desk by the computer just to cheer me up. Anyone else "secretly" getting excited about Fall??

Hobby Lobby is full of autumn things as well. I love it, because I am over this Florida summer already. Come on Fall! :)

I noticed that our Hobby Lobby also has its fall and many Christmas items out. And honestly I think many of out nights have been cool here in central PA. I love to decorate for fall, the crisp air, and the special food treats. With the way the weather has been I have been wondering if we are in for an early fall.

Oh my goodness! We've barely had any summer weather to speak of here in western PA! Mostly rain and cooler temps! I think we've suffered through maybe 4 or five days of heat and humidity, if that. We haven't had our a/c on more than three nights! I think I've only been in the pool twice! Thankfully, our garden is thriving, though. I love LOVE LOOOVE autumn - it's my favorite season, ever! But I'm just not ready for it yet... It feels like we've been on the verge of its arrival since before summer began! Yesterday, I was watching the news and they were predicting a weird cold front for next week with temps in the upper 60's, low 70's! I gasped! Thankfully, though, this morning the predictions are improving to the mid- to high 70's... We'll see!
Having said that, though, I can gnosh on candy corn ANY time! LOL! I think I'll shy away from the craft stores for a while, though... It's just too early for fall and ridiculously early for Christmas! My son and I were in Target at the end of June, and they were already clearing their summer stuff away, and the school supply bins were up. I thought my son was going to have a heart attack! LOL! Feeling the pressure he said, "We just got OUT of school!!! I can't BELIEVE this! Why don't they just let kids be kids and enjoy their summer, for Pete's sake!" Amen to that, kiddo! We homeschooling Moms need the break, too!

I have been hearing about certain areas of the country that are having cooler than normal summers this year. After Winter 2014, I know you are wanting to enjoy as much warmth as possible. For those of us in the southern regions, Summer is a long, hot and humid stretch making us weary and ready for a change. The reality for me here in Florida is that it is November before we get any real weather pattern changes where there are consistently cooler nights, and less humid days. I always schedule a visit to my daughter in Asheville, NC during late October to get an opportunity to take in the colored leaves and crisp fall air. Weather aside, I find that the pace of the season begins with the start of school and fills the air with new change and energy. We live in a university town and football fever is highly contagious! LOL! Even with the hot weather in place, the rhythm of the year changes in late August and the subtle fall signs in late September begin to show up like Dogwood berries turning red, nights getting dark earlier, and an abundance of wildflowers and butterflies crowd the rural highway roadsides. And.......... It is only a 9 hour drive from my house to the Georgia mountains where there are apple orchards everywhere! When I can't stand another minute of summer, I can head up for a day or two and submerge myself. Apples hanging on trees is a glorious site!!

Winnie, I was in Hobby lobby a couple days ago and they had the fall decorations out already. Seems odd with them still having the Patriotic stuff up but having worked in retail the stores go from holiday to holiday and push the seasons so thy can get the $$. I was ready to look at fall things but not ready to decorate for it yet. I can remember we always got our Christmas stuff in come July. My boss used to order it in January for the next year.

Oh Winnie I know what you mean about the summers here. I am not to far below you in St. Cloud Fl. I went out early to put bird feed and squirrel food out this morning. I could see a few ripe tomatoes out in a pot that my husband had planted by his barn. So I walked out to his barn and picked them. All of a sudden I was in a hot sweat. I did not think I would ever make it back inside to the cool air conditioner. So I am ready for some fall weather also. And some candy corn! By the way it is free Slurpee day at the 7-Eleven! Enjoy your candy corn!

Here in Iowa we have had mostly rainy and cool days so not much real summer yet. Was in Florida this last winter and really enjoyed the beautiful weather as it sure beat the Iowa winter. Thinking of moving to Florida but maybe only parttime. Love fall though. Favorite season.

I simply adore fall! Hence my screen name lol.
Right now I'm trying to enjoy each summer day to the fullest. For the first time in years it's not 30°C here! I'm so use to crazy humidity in my city but this year promises to be cooler. Perhaps that's why I'm so excited, with the cooler temperatures it just feels like one big autumn! :)
I've already seen some fall garland and Halloween ribbon at Michaels. I know their prices are horrendous and each year the quality of their products gets worse and worse, but it's always fun to look. When I was a little girl my mother would take me to White Rose (a craft store) just so I could see all the fall/Halloween products. I still remember the way the candles and the Halloween masks smelled lol. |

Winnie, It's hot and humid here in Texas. The heat index today was 100 degrees. I live about 40 minutes away from Galveston. We won't get our fall until late October. Laurie

I'm ready for autumn too. Looking forward to cool, crisp days and the beautiful autumn colors. I'm not a summer person even though I was born in June.

Hey Farmgirls! What is there to do when it is hot, humid and yucky outside??? Keep crafting and scheming for Fall was my answer. Low and behold, my photo posted right side up too! It was meant to be.
So, a dear Farmgirl friend loaned me a couple of fall patterns from her stash and I transferred this one on a flour sack cloth. Next, the fabric spent the afternoon in a coffee bath on the stove for several hours. The original size of these dishcloths was 28"x 28" which seemed too big and the pattern just got lost. So, I cut the cloth in half but after hemming it, it was really too narrow for a proper dishcloth. However, it makes a darling hanging on an antique cupboard door so that will be it's purpose this fall. Also, this week on MaryJane's RaisinJane blog, she did a post about embroidery and talked about making pillows with favorite quotes or sayings. She happened to have this October saying listed and I thought it went perfectly with my pattern so I added it. Thank-you MaryJane for the inspiration!!
The clothespin idea was found in an online store that specializes in Pimitives. They were selling as bowl fillers and I thought they were too cute. It tried my hand at making a few using some fall fabric scraps and I think they turned out really fun. At the same time as I was working on the other two projects, I made a batch of apple slices dredged in cinnamon and dried them in the over. My plan is to use the clothespins and apple slices in some homemade fall potpourri. I forgot how much the apples shrink so I might make another batch. The amount you see represents one medium apple sliced thin.
Hope you all have a great weekend! Anyone else working on fall projects in between canning, cutting hay, and gardening??

Love it Winnie! YOur embroidery is so cute. Just found some old clothespins while cleaning up. Looking for a craft to do with them. May have to check out Pinterest.

Denise, there are lots of adorable crafts out there for clothespins. Who would have ever guessed? Certainly not me! The type of clothespin showed in my photo I find not as good for clothes hanging as the other type. They work but seem harder to use on some heavy fabrics. Anyway, they sure make adorable crafts. Post us a photo of what you come up with! I would love to see.

Just completed another little stitching project with an apple theme. It was fun and easy. Wouldn't it be fun to stay at a B&B called Apple Inn and be able to pick some apples to take home and enjoy the InnKeeper's yummy apple recipes for breakfast?
Speaking of apple recipes that would work for breakfast, what is your favorite? I love apples sautéed in some butter with cinnamon and nutmeg added. They are delicious with eggs and bacon or on top of waffles or pancakes.
