I can't answer your question but you might send an email to Mary Jane as she uses clawfoot tubs at her Outdoor B&B and heats the water with burners underneath. My daughter and I were able to stay there and enjoy baths in a tub. It didn't take long to heat the water and then we turned the burners off before getting in the water.
But, she can probably give you more specific answers!
