Just protecting my chicken babies! The other day I was sitting down to a phone call with my brother when I saw movement in the brush in front of the house. Realized it was the big, red fox we all keep seeing around the neighborhood. I threw down the phone, ran around to the front, and came out the front door, hoe in hand, in my pajamas no doubt. I screamed, "Get outta here!" That fox had his snout ready to eat my chickens! He jumped ten feet in the air, high tailing it to the woods. Right before he got to the woods, he stopped and turned, looking me right in the eye. I think he thought, " I'll be back!" Or "Hey, last time I was here, you were taking my pictures!" Or maybe he thought I was one crazy human. Hey, those are MY chickens, and a farmgirl's gotta do what she's gotta do, right?

Farmgirl hugs,
Nicole

Tee hee hee... Oh, Nicole! I can just picture you! LOL! I do that just for the birds trying to eat the seedlings in my garden! I can't imagine what I'd do if it were a FOX!!! You're absolutely right - a farmgirl's gotta do what a farmgirl's gotta do! :) Carry on, girlfriend! Carry on! :)

Hugs -

My husband still picks on me for going after a raccoon in my pajamas. It must be a farmgirl thing :)

Hilarious. But you're definitely right!

This actually reminded me of the March 2014 issue of MJF. Wasn't there a photo in there of the inside of a building with a built-in chicken coop?

HEHEHE

I did the same with a deer last night in my newly planted garden. My husband "shushed" me, he was afraid the neighbors might care. I clearly did not.

Deer are like giant rats! as far as my garden is concerned. Got to get that fence up soon!

I have always referred to deer as "rats with antlers" Brenda! Too funny. I especially do not like seeing them with my precious hostas dangling from their mouths. They are pretty, though, and the babies are so sweet. Just don't eat my plants! Or my chickens, dear fox. ;)

If only we could all be neighbors... we would be quite the site running around chasing off pests in our jammies! Ha!

I often have to chase off the darn squirrels who are always digging up my tender little garden plants, eating my bird feed and breaking my bird feeders. They sure are a nuisance! Recently we had to free a little one from the rain gutter and then last weekend this guy got stuck in my bird feeder and after several attempts to free him, and over an hour of him being trapped, we had to break my feeder to get him out safely! Shortly there after he was hanging upside down from my suet feeder munching away!

P.S. The feeder was more than half full that morning and when we broke it to get him out, he had eaten EVERY last seed in there. I think he gorged himself and that is why he got stuck!

Sarah,

That picture/story about your squirrel in the feeder is too funny! Love it!

Marly, thank you!

I had a big scare last week. We just adopted a chihuahua about three weeks ago. Last week, while on the covered deck, a red tailed hawk swooped down while I was holding him! The hawk was only a couple of inches above my head! My poor little pup was so scared, so were we. He did not get him, but it is a reminder that he does look just like a squirrel. The same hawk has gone to the chicken coop, too, and today I waved my arms and chased him out of the tree in the front yard again today. They are beautiful, but I am so worried he will snack on my pup! Now we know to keep him close and on a short leash!

Farmgirl Hugs,
Nicole

Thanks, Marly! He's so sweet. The other day I was walking both my dogs, the big one and the wee one. A squirrel ran by...Pip is smaller than a squirrel!
