I have planted the following starter plants:

zuccini
cabbage
broccoli
swiss chard
peppers
thai basil
licorice
chives

I planted these from sprouted seeds

beans
peas

I planted these from seed in the packets

cardinal vine
tarragon
gourmet lettuce mix
Chinese mustard
romaine
peppers
lemon basil
rosy basil
chives
garlic chives
hyssop

These I started indoors

garlic chives
cherry tomatoes
purple tomatoes
thumbergia

I still have some herb plants and flowers to plant. While I was digging in the herb bed, I found a large tank less than 6" under the ground. I decided to stop planting there until the apartment company tells me it is safe. I don't know when that will be. I still want to plant some watermelon if I can find some plants.

Here's my garden.

Here's the tank.

I've planted the following tomatoes: I think they are heirloom.
Big Rainbow
Black Krim
Beefsteak
Earliana
Roma
Mortgage Lifter

I planted 13 tomato plants, started from seed. I just have my creepy crawly plants to go--cucumbers, pumpkin, and zucchini. Planted my Blue Lake 274 green beans this morning. I wish I had more room to plant, but I do with what I have.

My raspberries are buzzing with bees, so I'm hoping to get a relatively large crop this year. I froze some last year and they have tasted so good in the dead of winter.

We've had such great weather here. My San Marzano tomatoes are out and thriving, basil is going, banana pepper plants, zucchini, carrots, peas, romaine, spinach and argula also going great guns. But I have a rogue plant. They're supposed to be bok choy, a white and dark green Chinese cabbage. I have a tall plant, green leaves and now is blooming yellow flowers. Not sure what it is. When I get the cord to download photos, I'll show you all. Maybe somebody can identify this silly plant. Back to zero with the bok choy. If I dont' find any plants, I'll start some seeds. They like to grow during fall and spring. Also trying some large heirloom tomatoes this year. Usually they don't produce red tomatoes in time. We'll see.....

So exciting to hear about all of the great gardens that are popping up across our nation. I have a very small patch in our flower garden for a few veggies and my green beans have been doing fantastic. With 90+ degree days, it is tough to keep plants happy down here in Florida. My winter garden was much easier and the plants were so happy and green!

The weather here the south was so crazy this spring I was on pins and needles getting my garden going. I grow everything from seed and my tomato plants were two feet tall in my kitchen window before the weather was right for transplanting outside. But now they are over six feet tall and heavy with tomatoes. My herbs, onion and garlic are doing great. I have four plots of carrots that I keep going all year because my kids love carrots. I have already harvested my potatoes and replanted with beans. Had a great sweet pea harvest as well. Spinach and all my lettuces are doing great too.
I have multiple rows in the lower garden of mustards and collards and they are producing really well too.

The girls (2 goats) got in the greenhouse and ate my starts. :0 lol! We bought some things in new seed, but we bought some started plants, too, from a local nursery. My husband had gone compost crazy. He has brought home several LARGE truckloads of leaf mulch. It has taken a LOT of amending to get our garden going. The ground is clay, a bit rocky, and was dead. Grass wasn't even growing. So I feel like we are doing well. I really wish I had just 2 Delicata Squash plants. Can't find seeds/ plants around here and I don't want to order online for just a handful.

I do seem to have a tiny bug inhabiting my kale (aphid?) The bigger ones are pinkish- red, and teensy green ones...??? This worries me and I have been picking daily.
From 2 days ago. My husband is a bit green bean happy! :P

wow all you guys make me so jeulous cause I live up north Michigan and it has just become time we can plant. My husband planted a whole raised bed with green beans. I have lettuce coming up from some seeds that fell last year. and I planted some grape tomatoes. In my herb section I have Tansy, Sweet Annie and dill and lavender. I also planted large pumpkins and butternut squash. I bought mine all in small plants since our growing season here is so short. I hope to get a greenhouse made this fall so next year I can start seeds early. Oh yea I did plant some ornamental corn. Hope I get some just for fun!! marie maybe the tank is a left over septic tank. They usually are not very far down in the ground?? Alicia I will keep that delicata squash seeds in my mind and if I see some will pick them up. I have never heard of them before..

My garden is all in and it's growing. However, I'm waiting for the pests to start showing up. I have this "cute" little midget bunny that has been hanging out and I wish he would just go away. Then there is the snails--don't get me started on them. It is 85°F out right now and everything we grow is in sand and the moisture is evaporating as fast as I can get it on.

I'm ready for it to start producing though. I want to can some tomatoes.

I learned that the "tank" in the herb bed is actually a cement footing for an old clothesline. Almost wish the clothesline was still there but it is a hazard, I guess.

Everything in my garden is growing well. I will have pictures when the batteries recharge.

We get some of our neighbors cats come visit our garden. What if I put out my ceramic rabbit I wonder if it would scare the neighborhood cats away?!
I need to get busy some time this week and re-plant my sprouted plants into the garden.

It's our first year in our new house, and my husband built 4 raised garden beds for me. I have planted beets, radishes, onions, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, and a few other misc. squash. I also have some herbs in pots. My 3 year old loves to help mama water everything! Here's a picture of one of our gardening adventures, that was taken a few weeks ago.

Janice, some cheap hot pepper keeps cats from using your garden as their personal potty. They don't care to lick it off their paws.

I like the idea of raised beds using concrete blocks. Especially the holes that also include soil to plant in.

What a cute photo, Stephanie! And Betty Jo, I love Black Krim tomatoes! They are delicious. Despite a long, hard winter with lots of rain this spring, it looks to be a great gardening season this year, here in CT!

I got an email about the straw in my pictures. JIC anyone else is curious, here is my reply! :)

Yes, straw, plain old straw. It is just a mulch. We actually like the half composted leaf mulch better than straw. Mulching your garden is good to keep weeds out and moisture in, also the organic matter breaks down, adding nutrients to your soil. Don't use wood mulches, they will pull nutrients.

This year and last year I have had a difficult time getting my green beans to start. I planted a large package this year and two beans came up. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. Any ideas?

BTW, I want to compliment Connie on her gorgeous garden. Everything looks so strong and healthy.

Betty,

Check the pH of your soil. It should be between 5.5 and 7.5. Anything outside this range is bad for the plants. Generous compost helps. Soil testing is recommened. Good luck.

Marie, I have not checked the pH. Our soil here is mainly sand. However, I generously mixed in 40 bags of steer manure and last year's leaves that had been well cut up. The thing is, when I go to look for the beans (since they haven't broken the soil), I can't even find the seeds. I have just planted my second batch. If these don't come up, I'll give up for the year. Tomatoes are growing very well except for the Mortgage Lifter which seems to be going very slow.

Thanks for the response.

My garden is not doing so well this year :'( My plants are already burning up. We keep getting rain and then HOT! I am praying for veggies this year, since last year nothing in our area really survived the heat.

Aww, so sorry Shannon! I am having a few garden woes this year too. I have found my roses have thrips this year and so far I am not winning the battle against them... anyone have suggestions? My lavender is planted in a sunny and seemingly perfect spot but it is doing basically nothing. and something has eaten every bit of lettuce, spinach and chards that I have planted. :(

On the other hand my strawberries are exploding and my cottage garden is going nuts. I even had some garden visitors that I hadn't had in the past:
