I am just now reading this post for the first time. I had no idea. It is just heartbreaking. There are no enough words, but I am praying for this family and appreciate the address so I can send support to the family. What wonderful photos and memories some of you have of this dear farmgirl. Oh dear.... Joey

Farmgirls,
Here's a letter I received yesterday from Brandy's daughter, Tiffany. I asked if I could share it with you and she said: "Yes, please! It would mean the world to me and my family."
I think Brandy's life (and death) is why it is we do what we do as farmgirls--gather as one, dream, laugh, cry together.
How wonderful is it that gathering here together on this endlessly wonderful chatroom can help a family in need so much? This should be your WHY moment. It was for me. Today, I'm just so very proud to call myself a FARMGIRL and to be surrounded by so many wonderful, caring women. Stay the course!!!!

Dear MJ,
My Mom was one of your biggest fans. She was absolutely in love with your magazine, glamping, gardening, vintage everything, crafting, sewing, etc. She often said that she was "born in the wrong century."
She even gifted me a subscription to your magazine each Christmas.
I don't think I realized just how much she admired you and your "farmgirls" until this past week when I started receiving "farmgirl mail" from all around the country.
I get mail every day from people I have never met, expressing their heartfelt condolences at the loss of my Mother. These letters mean more to me than I can even express.
To know that my Mom meant so much to so many people brings us all peace.
I have forwarded all of these cards and letters on to my Dad. When I told him that you had personally made a contribution to his fund and that you had posted information about her on your website, he wept.
We are truly in awe of this new reality we are living in. Everything that has happened is so unbelievable, we can't really even comprehend it.
My Mom was an amazing woman. She was hard core. She worked hard and never let anyone tell her "no." She worked out in the garden on her hands and knees until she couldn't even stand up! She just had to have her hands in the dirt, getting in touch with nature. And when she wasn't in the garden she was tending to her chickens (her girls).
Please know that it is people like you and your collection of "farmgirls" that are helping us to heal, helping us to keep going.
We will overcome this tragedy and we will be made stronger for it; if only to continue the "true grit" spirit my Mom instilled in each of us.
Blessings~Tiffany Burdette

MaryJane Thank you for posting this. Tiffanys letter is beautifully written. Prayers continue for the family to continue to heal. Your words are wonderfully right about this strong group of women who all makes this a wonderful place to come and share our lives.

Brandy was truly and example to farm girls and women everywhere. The Farm Girl spirit lives on generation to generation, and my prayers go out to her family.
Lets all remember to laugh, and play and love. To always let the people we love know what is in our hearts. Brandy will live on in every life she has touched.

Thanks Mary Jane for sharing the letter and what a beautiful letter too. I think about Brandy and the other people who were lost in that mudslide everyday and continue to lift up her family and all the other families too.I pray healing can begin for all of them.

I am so touched by Tiffany's letter; I know we all are. Thank you, MaryJane, for sharing it with us, and also posting how those of us who are able to do so can contribute something to the help the family. I think it would deb lovely if Tiffany had a lifetime subscription to the magazine in her mother's memory. |

Brandy's daughter, Tiffany, is planning a celebration of Brandy Ogle Ward's life for June 22.

She's trying to put together a table presentation of the things Brandy cherished most. Since all of her worldly possessions were destroyed in the mud slide, Tiffany asked if I could send a few farmgirl things her way.
For sure, I told her I can send a few things, but I asked her if farmgirls could lend a hand and help FILL that table. She was thrilled with the idea of us sending small farmgirl items--the kinds of things that meant so much to Brandy. Things like canned goods, quilt squares, mail art, chicken décor, vintage clothing, etc.
Please send your items well in advance of June 22. Don't use earlier addresses you may have for Tiffany because she's moved closer to her dad to help him recover from his injuries.
Address to use:
Tiffany Burdette 19719 Dry Slough Road Mt. Vernon, Washington 98273
Post here what it is you plan on sending. I’m sure it will boost their spirits to see what’s coming their way! Let’s rally!!!!

I'm sending a few issues of my magazine, my newest book, Milk Cow Kitchen, and a handmade July 4th patriotic pillow that Brandy would have loved for her front porch.

I will be so glad to participate. My daughter-in-law make the most beautiful organic soap from her milk goats. I will send a bar of that soap. This is such a good idea. Bless her family.

I went ahead and deleted all the references to Tiffany's old address in this thread to hopefully avoid confusion. |

I am sending a garden style wood block art. I was so sad when I read this. MJF brought her so much joy ! as it does to 1000's of us Farm Girls! I am honored to send something to her family!
