I had kidney stone surgery about 2 weeks ago. The surgeon said he had never seen so many stones in both sides. He said I had about 30 stones in each kidney. I asked if he was kidding and he said no. My PTH is high, calcium levels are normal, but have lots of high numbers like oxalates, phos., and some others. The uro. and endo are perplexed to what is going on. I did have a hyperparathyroid surgery to remove 3 of my 4 parathyroids. I am at a loss. I did read that people with extreme digestion issues can have this happen. I fit right in that category. I am just hoping someone will read this and know what the answer is. I am scared to death they stones will grow back. I am on the diet for this, but wonder if it there is another cause.

Due to my adrenal and parathyroid issues, I too get A LOT of kidney stones. I had surgery once and swore I would never do that again! While I cannot tell you how to prevent them, I have found that chamomile tea seems to be holding mine at bay, or at least helping them pass more easily (I just passed one the other day - but once I started drinking the tea, it finished passing without the pain). I don't know if that will help or not, but it has helped me immensely.

DH has issues with kidney stones (but never had that many that I know of!) he takes a hydrangea supplement every day without fail. It has greatly reduced all of his kidney problems and he hasn't had a stone in quite a while. BUT when he runs out or forgets to take it, he can tell fairly quickly that something is brewing in his kidneys.

That really is scary! I don't have any words of wisdom, but just want to let you know that you will definitely continue to be in my prayers, Kem! I pray they don't come back, and I pray they figure all of this out for you so you don't have to worry anymore! Big hugs - Nini

Thanks guys. I have multiple doctor appointments coming up and I am going to ask all of them what they think and who they know that deals with issues like this. I have been researching and think docs should tell their patients more about what this does to the kidneys and natural ways to try to stop the growth of kidney stones. I am getting weary with the way doctors run patients through like cattle.

Kem - Have they tested your stones to see what they are made of? Sometimes there are foods that can cause the growth of them as well, and if you stay away from those foods, it helps. More than likely, though, I am betting it is due to the imbalances caused by your endocrine system. Continuing to pray for you! Oh - and I agree about the doctors pushing you through like cattle, though I have never heard it put that way ;) Thankfully we have finally found some good ones over the last year or two!

Sharron, I do think you are right about diet, which I am on a low oxalate diet. I also think it is because I have endo issues and have not found the right specialist to help me. I go to one currently, but if my next appointment is not any more productive than the last I am moving on. I feel he has had nothing to offer me. He has a more wait and see attitude. I am not for that, I am a proactive kind of gal. Disgusting we pay people to play Russian Roulette with our lives.
