good morning!!

I wondered if anyone has or is taking fish oil and what their experiences are. I feel compelled to share this story, in the hopes it will help someone else.

For many years now I've had debilitating pain. I had neck surgery and have a plate in my neck, and 3 herniated disks in my lower back. I lifted something more than 10 years ago that really messed me up. I've always done manual work, so I have osteoarthritis as well (common in most people at some point in their lives). My hands and fingers hurt everyday and were stiff. I had constant shooting nerve pain in my back, legs and in 1 knee. Recently my right shoulder started hurting as well. driving, walking and general everyday tasks had become unpleasant.

I tried everything, narcotics, physical therapy, injections in my spine, chiropractor...you name it. nothing worked. being convinced i would need back surgery i had countless doctor appts. my neck surgeon said he didnt think the disks in my back were causing my issues, i went to another surgeon. the second surgeon said the same thing. I was beside myself.

The second surgeon referred me to a rheumatologist. A lot of blood work later revealed positive results for an autoimmune disease. my doctor leaned towards lupus, but the numbers were not concrete. so, to date, still no definite answer.

I did a lot of research about autoimmune diseases. Inflammation plays a big part in them and in any disease. After all of my reading, I asked my doctor if an anti-inflammatory diet would help or reverse this. He said NO. He suggested I take elavil for pain. Elavil is an antidepressant. I've had my experience with other antidepressants over the years and was determined NOT to ever go back on one. I told my doctor I was not taking the pills.

I drove home in tears. How could poisonous pills be the answer? Was everything I read a lie?

Then I read about a boy in a coma who recovered with fish oil. I became inspired. I went and bought fish oil. http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/18/health/fish-oil-recovery/

Before i started the fish oil i had terrible nerve pain throughout the day, every single day. sometimes the pain would stop me in my tracks it was so bad. Well, I have been taking 2 fish oil pills for more than 2 weeks now. About a week after i started i noticed i had less pain. now more than 2 weeks later, i am hardly getting any pain, and if i do, it is nothing compared to before. I simply cant believe how much this is helping me. I am feeling great and so inspired. I hope this helps someone else. I am so sick of doctors pushing pills that do more harm than good. I am seeing my rheumatologist in a month and cannot wait to tell him how great i'm doing!

I'd love to know if it has helped others.

Hi Connie,

Have you been tested for a gluten allergy or tried a gluten-free diet? Many of your symptoms can be caused by allergic inflammation. The fish oil will help greatly but it won't get to the root of the issue.

Cheers

Connie, I've been taking fish oil for about 7 years now. I had injured my neck in a bad car accident in 2000. My neck and upper back were killing me and I was worried what would happen as I got older. For different reasons I started taking fish oil and started drinking apple cider vinegar in ice water every day. Before I knew it, I felt normal again! The pain I was experiencing had gone down considerably. I never knew if it was the fish oil or ACV that did the trick. I still have neck pain at night when I lie down, but it is controllable. The fish oil and ACV has also made my blood work #'s "so terrific they are ludicrous" according to my doctor.

I feel many doctors are licensed pill pushers. Keep up the with the fish oil and hopefully the benefits will continue for you!

Lilliane I've never been tested for a gluten allergy. When I go back to the dr i will mention it.

Dawn, so inspiring to hear your story. I believe it about the dr's bring peddle pushers. how scary that we put our trust in them and we depend on them for our lives and it sometimes does more harm than good.

I would love to be able to take fish oil to help with inflamation but after just a few days taking it I start to itch bad. I have tried taking it several times and it does the same thing. The one time I took it for a few weeks and ended up with a rash all over my stomach and other areas. I tried it several times thinking maybe something else was causing the itching. But it was the fish oil for sure. I did notice less arthritis pain. I wonder if there is another oil I could take that would work the same way?

Connie I am so glad to hear how much its been helping you. I think its really cool when natural supplements and food can be so powerful. I hope you keep improving.

I just started taking it about 6 months or so ago for my I.C. It is the only thing I have found so far that makes the flares considerably less. It helps immensely with restless leg syndrome, though I am not sure why. I don't like the taste of it, but I love the results.

I take salmon oil everyday. I have pretty bad eczema otherwise and it helps.

Wooliespinner - If you cannot take fish oil, and with that itching you most certainly have an allergy to it, flaxseed or flaxseed oil may help.
