Hello sisters...

I have been busy making quilts during this winter and as I was researching pattern ideas, I came across a friendship/autograph quilt which reminded me of the Round Robins I participated in back during the 80's.

All it takes is a few bits of scrap fabric (2 prints and 1 plain muslin) and the time it takes to cut and assemble an 8" block. You receive one block for each block you send out, as many or as few as you choose from the list of those who participate. As we have seen done with other groups (pen pal's, card swaps, etc) let me know if you are interested and I will create a list of participants to whom I will email a .pdf of the instructions and list of participants.

It takes 40 blocks to make a Lap Robe 54" x 78". The more participants the larger your quilts will be.

I would love to make a king size quilt .... 108" x 108" finished size which will take 144 blocks with a 9" border. This means we need 144 participants to whom I will send to each one of my blocks.

The center piece of the block consists of 3 rectangles (2 print, 1 plain muslin) On the plain muslin rectangle, using a fine sharpie, we sign our name, with city and state beneath the autograph.

This project is lots of fun and will be a perfect addition to our glampers decor!

Can't wait to get started!

This is the design of our quilt. Imagine it with the names of our MJ Sisters in each of the center white rectangles! Can't wait to see how everyone personalizes their own quilt!

Do the blocks have to be backed and quilted?

No, they don't need to be "squared off" either. Just assemble the 7 pieces for which you will receive full instructions, then sign your name, city and state with a sharpie. Everyone assembles their "swapped" blocks and finishes their own quilt however they choose.

The block is 8" and we square off the blocks we receive so all the blocks on our own quilt will be the same size.

That looks pretty cute. Love it and the idea behind it. I'm hoping we get a lot of responses. :)

I like the idea. However, I have too many promises which need to be kept. I may sign up later. Thank you for starting this swap. I will check back to look at the pictures.

I suggested it. It would be a great badge project for any Chapter.

Hi Deb and thanks for joining our quilt party! If you email me your mailing address I will add you to the list and get it and the instructions right out to you, I will also mail my block to you.
It would be wonderful to be able to have our quilts completed for glamping season, but it truly depends on how many and how soon our member list grows. We need a minimum of 24 for a small lap-quilt (52" x 70" 4 x 6 blocks with an 8" border)

Where in Maine is Springfield? Many years ago I lived in the Farmington area.

The number of blocks each person does is entirely up to the individual. We make and mail one block for each block we want in return. 3-5 blocks for a table runner; 24 blocks for a small lap-robe (approx. 52" x 70") keeping in mind that smaller projects such as these do not require filler, just a top and a back, unless a thin filler is desired. Obviously, the more blocks each person trades the larger their finished quilt will be. Do not worry about trying to fit a color scheme or trying to "match" other blocks, the individuality of the fabrics is what will add to the beauty and make these truly "scrappy quilts".

I am using up my scraps and making blocks now to get a head start before I get too busy in the garden.

Deb, I emailed the pattern info, mailing list and a scan of the block I am sending to you. The block will be going out in Monday's mail.

Is there going to be a deadline for completing the required number of blocks?

Thanks for asking Becky :)

The required number of blocks is completely up to the individual. Newbies to quilting will probably prefer fewer blocks and thus a smaller quilt for them to tackle, while those of us who are more experienced may opt for as many as they can get/make.

As for a turn around deadline to get the blocks out... what I am envisioning is that I will email a list of all the participants names and address is sent out regularly as new names are added. Each person should send a quick email to the names on the list to let each quilter know when to expect a your block.

Contact as many or as few as desired. When you have reached your goal let me know and I will move your names to a "completed" list so everyone will be aware of who still needs blocks and who has all she needs for her project.

I am trying to keep this fun and simple for everyone. Please let me know if anyone has a simpler way.

Just an quick FYI: I made 4 blocks today, it took about 15 minutes, start with cutting to signing my name, to make all four. I did it while having my morning tea. :)

Email your name and mailing address to me so I can include you. I send out the information packet by return email promptly.

Goodmorning Ladies! So many of you have taken time to check out this project, how about taking just a few minutes more to join us in reaching our goals of 40 blocks and making at least 39 new friends! It takes only a few minutes to create a block, and mail it in a standard 9" letter envelope and stamp. (no big shipping expense). Let's see if we can get 36 of you to join us by tax day April 15th.

Please farmgirl sisters, as Deb has stated, let's make this happen. We need 36 more blocks to reach our goal.
