Ok, so each year I go a handful of us Vtg. Trailer Divas go over to Elk, ID... for a weekend of Glamping and giggles and food...
and each year I pop over to Juli's cuz Steph's cottage... and she has (literally) mile high Hops...
Well here I am now, I will be going to "Girl Camp' again in July in Elk,,, and will try to harvest a couple of Hops seed(?)...
so before I go on the internet to search growing a Hops plant... does anyone here grow a Hops plant?
I just am interested in how it vines...and wonder if I could grow it horizontly instead of verticle..
Any suggestions?
oops guess I should have mentioned,,, I now live in the moutains of Central Calif..

I'm interested in this topic too, with all the microbreweries and home brewers springing up around here, hops might be a cash crop! Just wondering if there is a specific variety better than another for the soil/weather conditions here, and I was also wondering if I needed to build a 30 foot trellis....

In southern Idaho they grow it on 30 foot trellis in a v shape I have a friend who has an old chain link fence that it grows like crazy on. So as usual it is just a soil sun water factor.

Everything is grown up around these parts too, less space if you think how long they get and how wide a trellis you would need for just one plant if you went horizontal.

We are going to grow 6 plants this year. I will be ordering the rhizomes next month. I will let you gals know how it works...I am so glad I stumbled across this feed.

I want to grow some this year, too. I am going to try Cascade and Williamette. You have to start them with rhizomes. They grow quite tall at 15-20 feet and trellises are recommended. They do have their own set of problems...powdery mildew and things like that. We will see what I can do!

I too want to start some hops because of the whole cash crop. It will be interesting. Can you start from a root?
