A few of my favorite things...Scarecrow, Glamper, Dog, Garden.
A gate I made out of scrap lumber, all by myself!
Mulberries!
My not so scary scarecrow named Petunia.
The view looking up from my hammock.
Wild roses on a trellis in my herb garden.
My hops already to the second floor!
My first black Hollyhock just about to open.

I've read that bees like hops too, and they provide health benefits to them. I've thought about growing some for my husband's hobby too, but haven't done it yet. I've also read that they are deadly to dogs, so I don't want to place them anywhere that the pups can get to them.
Your garden is lovely! I do love that DIY gate too!! :-)

Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden with us! You have clearly worked hard making such a wonderful place. And the black hollyhock is very cool! I have never seen those and will now be on the lookout.

Very pretty. I love the gate. I need to make a few. I'm tired of hopping over the fences! And I love Petunia. You did a great job on her.

More black Hollyhocks opened! For those of you that are interested, it is an heirloom seed from Seed Savers called Negra Hollyhock

Diane, I had to sneak back and look again at your garden, as during the winter with snow, slush and darker skies, I can work myself into a funk. Petunia is gorgeous, and I'm waiting again for green grass. Everything is just beautiful.

Claudia, Thanks for visiting my old garden post. It reminds me of how much I will miss it since we are now living in our RV and traveling the country. I am going to do some container and hanging gardens just so I can get my hands dirty and enjoy some fresh greens.

Diane...I have always loved Petunia...since you first made her.

I absolutely love your black hollyhock. Do you have seeds that
you would be willing to share?

Love and Hugs,
Peggy

That Hollyhock Nigra is spectacular! Would you mind sharing how you cultivated it? Did you start it indoors and set it out, or did it go right into the ground? Any special soil amendments?

I have quite a few questions on the Hollyhock Nigra. I bought the seeds from www.seedsavers.org and planted them in spring. They are a perennial and will come back every year. The first year I had problems with rust on the leaves but it didn't seem to hurt the plants. The second year is the pictures above. I still was having problems with rust but bought a natural anti-fungal from my garden supply which seemed to help. They grew over eight feet tall so I had to stake them. I sold that house and I didn't save the seeds from last year or I would share some.

I have those very seeds on order from SeedSavers! I always thought hollyhocks were biennial, but once established, they'd somehow wind up producing every year. So you sowed them directly in the garden? I know rust is a big issue for hollyhocks, even up here. A master gardener here tells me that the best treatment for rust and some other cosmetic issue like that is to improve the soil, as opposed to putting anything on the plant itself. My mom used to have great hollyhocks; I remember she was generous with compost around them. Staking seems to be inevitable, although the "outhouse hollyhocks" are supposed to be okay on their own. I'm going to try those this year, too. You have a great big green thumb :) I'm jealous! Thanks for the info.
