Wellll, I had a vintage cake that was all grimey. I had already washed it by hand and it was not coming clean. So I put it in the dishwasher...... well... the paint was already peeling. So now it is half painted. I am thinking it is aluminum. How would you repaint this?

a lot of those old aluminum items were painted with acrylic paint then used a sealer over them to protect the paint...you will probably have to lightly sand the old paint & varnish/sealer off then wash it in very hot soapy water then rinse I would recommend in a vinegar/water rinse to cut any grease like from your hands. there is a neat paint out that you put on & then bake in your oven that creates a harder paint that stays on better...its like having a enamel piece but without having to have a kiln that you might want to try.....it is suppose to be able to be wiped with a damp cloth where as the regular enamel paint might bleed if gotten wet...good luck & keep us up to date on how it goes please...michele'

Thanks, Michele! I will have to look for this paint. I looked up the pattern for this cake pan which I have the bread box that matches. It is a pine cone design from a set my great grandmother had.
