I am trying to make everyones gifts this year and I have no idea what to do for the guys! I need something for my husband, my dad and my brother in law. I need help! What are you guys doing?

I made my husband and parents what I call a TV lap quilt. Big enough to have over you while you watch TV (almost a twin size). I cut either 4" or 6" blocks of three different color fabrics (two solids and one print)and sew them on the machine in a diagonal pattern. If you want a bigger size, you could add a border or two. They sew up really fast, then add you batting and backing, and just tie with a heavy embroidery thread. I use all cotton fabric and batting and it is soooooo warm. My parents fight over theirs and my husband won't share his too much (unless I'm sick). I'm finally making one for myself in pastels so all the guys will leave mine alone ; )

My guy likes anything John Deere, so our daughter is making him a throw with tractors on it and I am making a green and yellow pillow to go with it. He really likes it when the girls make him stuff (anything).
Life may not be the party we hoped for...but while we are here we might as well dance! |

I am not a person who sews, but my Mom is making my nephew a quilt out of old blue and black jeans. It is the one where you cut big squares and sew together, but leave a loose edge around each square, then you wash it a few times and the edges get frayed. He is a big baseball fan and his room is in blues - so this should look really good.

After the big storm we just had up here, I think battery operated ANYTHING is good. Battery operated lanterns, BIG BIG flash lights, radios. Heavy socks,food baskets that are things men like, you know cheese, nuts, spreads, crackers, etc. Nice outside shirts from places like LL BEAN. So if you were really feeling money able, you could get your husband a shirt, a lantern and a cheese basket.Of course there are the standard gifts, new wallet, good hair brush,that is if they still have hair, gift certificates, and if the lottery happens to favor you, a big screen tv is always a nice choice or a new car.

i know this isn't 'hand-made' but i love giving BOOKS to guys ... i know what their interests are .. and i look all year long in antiques shoppes and flea markets and used book stores for great books ... and they only cost a few dollars too! THEN .. you could make a wonderful BOOK MARKER that goes with the theme of the book.

Thanks for the ideas! I like th TV quilt. My mom made me a twin size quilt when I was in College for my bed and it is now my couch quilt. Every once in a while He will grab it first and it makes me soooo mad (in a silly sort of way) because it is MY quilt. I think he would like his own quilt. The outdoor shirt and cheese basket sounds good for my dad (hubby doesn't like cheese!) but still unsure about the brother in law. Him and my sister are expecting their first baby in April (a boy!!) any suggestions for things an expecting father would want? My sis an bro-in-law are very "YUPPY" and aren't really into the whole country thing. So that is kind ofhard too!

My hubby has some favorite gift suggestions -
1) Crank radio - no batteries needed, wind the crank to make it work
2) Magnetic flashlight - you shake it to make it work, there's a magnet inside
I asked him for some suggestions for items you can make:
1) Furry blankets made from fake fur - just cut 2x the size you want, fold over and sew the edges
2) This year's request - a scarf/muffler (extra long like Dr. Who's scarf - it'll end up being 10-12 feet long) in his college/high school colors so he can wear it to the football games
3) knit hats or knit socks to wear like slippers
Something I did for his birthday was to find candy molds and make him some molded chocolate candy. I found a couple of places online that sell unusual molds or make molds in custom shapes and got some molds with masonic symbols and some viking symbols. You can also find soap molds too.

I made my husband a macrame hatband one Christmas. He really likes it-attractive, special and made from my heart and hands.
My husband requests homemade peanut brittle and toffee each year. We always give this as well to the two fathers.
We like to give nice flannel shirts to the guys. They never have enough of them as they wear them out without replacing them.
We also got wind up flashlights-big hits!!

My DH's birthday is exactly one month before Christmas, so he always gets two presents within a short period of time.
For his birthday this year, I've bought him a telescope to watch the stars and birds. He's very interested in geography, so I bought him an atlas one year too.
Also, for his b-day a couple years ago, I bought a large map of North America, tacked it to an equally large cork board and put hundred's of mini pins on all the towns and cities we've visited. This is still his favorite present!
Oh, and socks are always good for men, my DH blows through them so quickly!
