This prose I a Lorena Caler original

I promised my man
You'd be gone by next fall
But one look at you
When I pulled you out
To fend off the cool autumn morn
And knew I couldn't do it at all.

The odd looks I get
When town chores I run
Because of your comforting smells
That permeate layers.
Then family complains that
You need to be washed.

You keep the damp autumn dew
Off my shoulders
You keep me warm
When the winter snow
covers the ground.
You keep me dry when the
Cool spring rains fall
And I don't sweat a drop or
Get chilled to the bone.

Like a cup.of.warm tea with a friend
You bring back memories
again and again
Of warm fuzzy nuzzles
From warm furry muzzles
Of stacking wood
On a crisp autumn day
Of prepping the gardens
For their long winter sleep
And shovelling snow
In a mountainous heap
Of an early spring walk
Looking for signs of new life.

I look at you now
And heave a big sigh
I guess I'll have
To wash and mend you
And just get by.

There's nothing like an old barn coat
That greets you year after year
And in the spring says good bye
Till I see you again in the fall.
In the mean time, I'll just
Hang here in the hall
And wait for my old friend
To come to call.

Was hoping someone would appreciate this. I've had my barn coat since 1996and is quite well worn.

Love this, you could have written it for my daughter. About 15 years ago it was her Carhartt, now it's her Rambo. I'll make sure she reads this.

Love this!

My Rambo is 8 or 9 years old this year, it was a birthday gift from my mother. And, my old Carhartt is still going strong as the community barn coat at the boarding barn, it's well worn and tattered, but we all appreciate it in the winter!

So good to be back home!!

I wish this site had a like button too! That is a great poem. I am reminded of the coat my father had, a quilted barn coat.....he shoveled snow in in it and would come into the back porch, give me the coat and I would put it on and go out to take my turn shoveling. I loved the feeling of wearing his coat in the dark cold eve.
