I am asking prayer for my husband and his family. His father has been battling alzheimers disease for over ten years. The past 6 days he has been in hospice. My husband would stay with him 12 hours through the night each night to give his mom rest. The past 2 nights was really super hard on his dad and my husband. His dad really suffered that night and my husband is really struggling with this. I have never seen my husband so haunted before.
I have been praying for him all day. I know his dad is at peace and with the Lord and whole again. His dad was also a veteran of WW2 and was wounded really bad and survived after a year of reconstructive surgeries and grafts.

My husband is so broken and so sad. I am asking for a prayer of peace and healing for my husband and his family.I wish I could take his pain for him. Thanks so much for listening.

I have lost both of my parents at a young age and it still hurts.
I will be praying for your family.

Linda,
I am lifting your husband and all of his family up in prayer. Things like this are never easy, and seeing our loved ones suffer is so difficult.
Know that your father in law is wrapped in the comfort of God's loving arms now and that he is finally at peace.
Hugs,

Thanks ladies for each one of your prayers I really appreciate them.

He has been really struggling with seeing his father in his last hours. I tell him your father is no longer suffering and he does not want you to keep suffering. He said he can't stop seeing him suffer over and over again like a video loop he can't turn off.His dad did not pass easy and he keeps reliving this. I feel so bad for him.

Today he is at work which will keep his mind busy. That is what I was trying to do when he was at home. I hope as time passes it will lessen. I will just keep praying and supporting him. Its never easy loosing a parent. I went through this with my dad 11 years ago. Now what I remember is the good memories. I hope he will be able to do that too.
Once again thanks so much for all your prayers.

You know, Linda, our priest told this story at Mass on Saturday. I don't know if it will help your husband at all, but I thought maybe it would be a good idea to share. Father's mother would always tell them this story after a loved one passed. I’ve tried to remember as much of it and keep as true to the story as possible. I hope it will help somehow.

Once there was a woman whose son met with a tragic, untimely passing. The woman was so aggrieved that she just cried all the time - day and night, night and day. She wouldn't eat, she couldn’t sleep, she wouldn't leave her house... But on occasion, she would receive friends just to have the shoulder to cry on. Nothing consoled her heart. The details of his passing haunted her every waking moment, and she was extremely unsettled at the mere thought of his suffering. All she wanted to do was see her son's face again and hear his voice, but she knew it would never happen. She wanted to die. Finally, one day, a dear friend's words reached her heart. Why didn't she go to Church and seek the Lord in His home - perhaps she would receive her answer there. She made up her mind to go and meet the Lord on His turf the next morning.

She arrived early. No one was there, except the caretaker who had come to unlock the doors, turn on the heat and light the candles at the altar for those seeking contemplative prayer. Overwhelmed by her grief, she just started sobbing. Tears poured forth like never before. She begged and pleaded with the Lord to allow her just one more moment with her son. All she wanted to do was see his face, hear his voice, and know that he was all right. As she was praying, she heard some rustling behind her at the door. She wanted to look up, but she had determined to give the Lord her complete attention. She needed her prayers answered. The rustling became louder and she could hear someone trudging down the aisle toward the front of the Church. Still not looking up, tears streaming down her face, she kept vigilant waiting for her answer. Suddenly, she heard the sound of water behind her. “Water?” She thought. “What on earth?” Unable to bear the curiosity, she finally looked up from her folded hands and turned around to see what was going on back there.

Her heart stopped. Lo and behold, there before her stood her beloved son, glowing, white, beautiful and pure. He was dazzling. It was all she could do to rise from the kneeler and rush toward him. “No, Mom… Please… You cannot touch me. But oh, how I love you, Mom. I am fine. SO fine. It’s so beautiful here…so much more than I ever could have imagined! But Mom, you have to make peace with this. Seeing you like this is breaking my heart. I can’t leave you while you’re suffering so deeply.”

Suddenly, the mother noticed her son was carrying a big bucket full of water – the biggest bucket she ever saw. “My dear, sweet, beloved boy, why are you carrying that bucket? What is all that water for?”

“Mom,” he replied, “How can I leave you when you’re in so much pain? This water I carry are all your tears. I keep catching them, hoping you will feel me nearby and hoping you’ll feel my love. But they’re weighing me down, Mom. So much so, I can’t go to be with God. Please, Mom. You have to be happy knowing I’m happy. I’ve never been happier – God is AWESOME! Heaven is a wonderful place! Please let me go. I want to see everything I can so that I can show it all to you – share all of God’s wonders with you - when it’s your time to come. Just please, stop grieving so. You know I am with God. The love in your heart, the faith He has given to you tells you so! You know I am speaking the truth, Mom! I am fine. Really, really fine. Please eat something, please, go, get some rest, and then go enjoy the life God has given you. I promise: we WILL be together again. Just please let me go now. I really want to go to Heaven. But I will wait until you’re ready. “

Overcome with joy, the woman’s tears suddenly subsided. That amazing peace that surpasses all understanding filled her heart. She looked deeply into her beloved son’s eyes and saw the true joy that she herself had been longing to find. “Oh, my dear boy. I’m so sorry. In my own grief, I have grieved you as well. I would never want to hold you back from all that God has to offer. My heart is so full of love; I have peace… And such joy fills my heart for you, knowing that everything we hoped in has proven true for you. Go! I am fine now! Revel in the Lord! I will look for you when it’s my time.”

“Praise the Lord! Thank you, Father. Thank you! I’ll be there, Mom. I’ll be waiting for you - just you wait and see! This separation is only for a time, but our eternal celebration will be forever!” And with that he departed with great joy.

His mother turned, walked back to her pew, gently wiped her nose and placed her handkerchief gently in her purse. She looked up, saw the image of the cross behind the altar and smiled. There He was, crucified… One hand stretched out to Heaven, the other to Earth, bridging the gap for all eternity. “Blessed assurance…” she thought to herself. Blowing Him a kiss, she walked out of the darkness and back into Life.

Certainly we will have horrific suffering in this life – sometimes unto death. My sister-in-law suffered a horribly traumatic death, and that memory is still as clear as day in my mind. I won’t go into details, but she knew she was dying, it was slow, painful and horrifying, God rest her soul. But she’s okay now. She is with Him. There is no more suffering in Heaven. The only suffering that remains is in the minds and hearts of those who remain behind. We who are still here must remember that Jesus was right there with our loved ones, and He helped them through. Once they’re with Him, all memory of the bad passes away. Your husband’s Dad isn’t suffering anymore – he is fine. REALLY fine. What your husband witnessed in his passing was probably the most horrific, traumatic experience. It is a very difficult thing for your husband to come to terms with; it will take time. But the truth of the matter is, it is over. There is no more suffering for his Dad. Your husband most certainly needs to grieve; but his torment is from suffering at the hands of evil that wants to steal his joy. He has power over that. He must not allow it, and through your strength and everyone's prayers, he will come to the place where he can overcome. You just keep praying him through, we will, too. God bless him. We’ll also pray for him find peace as he sees through to the other side, where his father is alive, well, healthy, young, perfect – and living in total, utter, complete joy.

I so wish I could help you make this better for him, Linda. I hope and pray that something in what I have shared has helped you in some way. My love and prayers are with you both. Just please trust that in time, he will feel better. Thank God he has such a loving wife who lifts him up in prayer.

God bless you both –

Nini
