So...last week I was child sitting a little boy who both loves to be read stories to and adores my chickens. While we were outside he was sitting on the ground and feeding bits and scraps to the chooks, and I was standing holding Green Eggs and Ham (which he had never heard!!!!!??!!!) and reading to him. One of my super weird neighbors came out to his car and looked across the narrow field at me loudly reading the story (apparently not seeing the kid) beside the chicken coop with the wildly clucking and excitable chickens, stared at me a long minute (I DID wave) hopped in his car and sped away....This morning, another neighbor laughingly informed me that I'm being referred to as The Crazy Chicken Lady
Previously I had informed these neighbors that if they continued to allow their dogs to run around loose and let them bark at me/my cats/dog and chickens, I would be serving doggy pot pie for Christmas...
I'll admit that I have a bent sense of humor, but this only makes me want to go read aloud to the chickens more often (Still laughing)

Hi Annika, Oh my that is just too much! Hmmm, I think you need to manage your misrepresentation of your reputation. Your neighbors may or may not be into this next suggestion, but it could become a bridge builder. You are taking the higher road. You could have a letter posted of how the neighborhood children have enjoyed your reading stories to them. You could include children's books in addition to the others. I have posted a photo of the neighborhood book library in Coeur d'Alene, ID. And two in Uberlingen, Germany. You could put your already read copies of the MJF Magazine in the box to start. But do block out your name and address, just to be safe from identity theft. Good luck! Annie

LOL! Oh, Annika!!! Next time, do dress up all fancy or funky when you do it, too - big hat and all! Make sure you do the voices, and I'd sing and dance like Michele does (you're both too cool!). If he's going to be rude and stare in wonder, and then be shaken by what he sees, you might as well have all the fun with it you can and give him LOTS more to talk about in town! LOL! People...
Annie - Love the pics of the neighborhood libraries! What great communities!

| Too funny. You go girl, nothing like keeping the neighbors guessing. I am glad I am isolated and noone knows the crazy things I do. Not that I care what they think. |

My friends and family think I am the crazy chicken lady. I have the girls trained to get snuggles when they are let out of the coop. They line up and wait to get pet or picked up and loved-up. Then they get a little treat.
They are like puppies with feathers. I love them Arttie |

The organization which promotes the installation of these small libraries is called Little Free Libraries. Here is their link:
http://littlefreelibrary.org/
We have them all over Minneapolis, MN. I put the books which I have read and do not wish to keep in them and take books out which I want to read. After reading them, I usually put them in the same or another Little Free Library. These small free lending/keeping libraries provide access to books in disadvantaged neighborhoods and helps kids interact with and read books.
I can see you putting a cute little chicken coop little free library out front of your house low enough for kids to get into it. Publicize it in the paper and on installation day, appear in all your chicken finery to promote it. This could be something.
