So today my MIL and SIL came up the mountain for a visit,,, my DH was driving all of us around the area where we now live... I spotted a VERY large 'cat'.. and I yelled out! "Cougar, lion,, Back Up... I just saw a cougar or lion or something"... DH hit the brakes, backed up but by then the 'cat' had run into the thicket of trees... Now mind you, everyone gave me a rash about my sighting... that it was probably a large cat... and I need new glasses...
Well guess what,,, tonight we read that there was a Mountain Lion sighting... and yep, just 2 roads over from where we live,,, which is where I spotted the 'cat'... Dare I tell my hubby... "Told You So!"??? oh you betcha!

| I live in NW Kansa and we have been having sightings too. Rumor has it the fish and game commission relocating cats to rural Ks from Colorado because of growing population. Just last week on Facebook a guy posted a picture of a horses back flank with the ugliest large long gash. Vet says it was a mountain lion. This happened one county over, from where I live. For the past 4 or 5 years we have had many sightings in our rural area. Spooky to me. I am going to really flip out when the bears come. |

We had one killed on the highway several years ago when the cleared the land for the new hospital. BIG CAT.....long tail. Fish and wildlife denied it of course.

We have them in Illinois, too. The IDNR finally admitted it this year when someone took a picture of one and was able to verify it. The picture ended up in all the papers. So they had to admit, yeah, there are cougars (but they say there are no breeding pairs). I know of someone at work whose cow was attacked by a large cat--the heifer died from its injuries. I've heard the IDNR has released bears, cougars, and wolverines in the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. Cindy

These big cats are heard by my husband's cousin. And my husband's Uncle has seen them come down off the mountain to go after cattle. The cousin and Uncle live in the mountains the border the NE TN -Western NC state lines. eek!

very rarey we will have a Mt Lion show up around here, and its always during drought times, they come down out of the Mts for water and food, as long as I've lived here, no one has lost any pets or livestock to one...we do have alot more bobcats than we ever used to, and again its due to the drought, and again , I've not heard of pet/livestock losses recently...

"no breeding pairs" where is the study on that? That's too funny.

Wow!!! We have some coyotes around here, but that's all I know of. They've never bothered our cows.

We have really gangster coyotes here. Not afraid at all to saunter up the drive way. Lots of deer and small mammal types, but never a cougar or such. I'm kind of jealous Grace, I'd seriously put on the "told ya so"

for the life of me,,, I do not understand why "Man" has to interfere with nature... (relocating/breeding etc)... we just can't leave well enough alone... Back in the Conejo Valley (tween L.A. and Santa Barbara) we had/have mountain lions, cougars, coyote etc... then up in the out lying areas of Spokane we had a lot, and I do mean a lot of coyote, badgers and I even saw a Wolf, tho they are not native to the area... we also had a 'wild dog' population problem (thank you ugly humans who turn/abandon their dogs loose out in the mountains)... and now back here in the mountains of Central Calif., we have mountain lions & coyotes.... I have 2 kitties,,, they are indoor kitties and tho we don't have a dog right now,,, if & when,,, it will be an indoor dog unless I am outside with it.
