[size=4][I can't tell you how much I have missed y'all while I was away but I must say thank you to all those who wrote to me the year I was up at the farm. Without your letters & cards I would have been very lonely but you all kept my mail box full each week & I am sooooo blessed to have you all in my life
I got back home a week ago Sunday because with the congress/gov't shut down we had no money & even though it cost with rent less than $200 a month for me to be there it wasn't something we could keep doing so I am home 6 months early but was able to do quite a lot in the year I was there. I promise to write more later but wanted y'all to know I am back..a big thank you to Debbie Fischer who paid my membership so I could be here again.....a huge thank you to Julie, ND hen who spoiled me rotten with the best care packages & to all the other special hens thank you for all the treats, great cards & letters.

oh Peggy I WANT those sheep!!!! I can't tell y'all how wonderful you all make me feel...you are the most special hens in the world! I finally found my camera & will be putting pics into the computer so I can share some with you..I have some wonderful pics of the 2 sick calves I cared for & will tell that story once I get the pics here plus some beautiful pics of the farm I want you all to see.
Most of you know I was to go help out a friend & live off grid but my friend decided I couldn't be completely off grid in the trailer but I did live as off grid as I could. But just so you know I wasn't pioneering like I had 1st wanted but still didn't use the lights...I did have a stove & frig that I turned on in the winter cause I was only able to get a load of very wet firewood that froze all winter so if not having the cook stove I would have not had any hot soup on the days I could not get a fire going in the woodstove. I did go totally pioneer over the winter with having to melt water for me & the kids as all the pipes froze up so no toilet either..but had a potty chair & biodegradable potty bags that are used for camping. believe it or not I actually enjoyed going out & getting the beautiful white clean snow & putting it on the woodstove to melt. The trailer was built for the south with only inch thick walls so the air would get quite dry & having the melting snow made it easier to breath & add a tad bit more moisture into the air.
But living there over the winter I only got one cold & that was from when Thomas came & gave me his cold...lol Normally the farm gets about 60+ inches of snow but this winter the snow was only around 20 inches but being in a valley between the mountains & the lake I got bitter winds the whole winter in the trailer. So it was good for me to learn how to take care of myself while in there over the winter. This winter the Farmers Almanac says it will be very snowy & bitter cold so I can't imagine what it would have been like at the trailer but I did fix the big tears in the side of the trailer & will show pics of that later plus I know I would have had dry wood if I had stayed.
let me tell you why I came home now instead of in March as I had planned. when Congress shut down the gov't we were without a income as Thomas is on his VA school money & his monthly Military drill $, so even though it cost me $100 in rent there & then 0-$100 for feed & food for me & the kids it was more than we had to spare plus my friend had stopped all my jobs I was doing because she either didn't like them or was not sure whether she wanted what I had done already so I would have spent the winter at the trailer just taking care of me & the kids. So when Thomas came up & told me we no longer had the $ for me to be there it made it easy for me to decide to come home.
I had had the time I needed to make sure I wanted to stay married while there so there was no reason not to come home. I must admit I cried a bit when I left because I was going to miss the cows, mountains & peacefulness of the farm plus I made a few good friends with some of the area farm people. but I am glad to be home & the kids are happy to be back in their old coop.

thank you all for the wonderful home welcoming!! I am still adjusting after 2 weeks & boy has the time flown....Actually have my 1930's antique wood stove going tonight & that's been great...missed that ole girl while I was gone...Thomas never got around to ordering firewood so I am hoping the man I called last week can get us 2 cords for the winter..we need more but at $240 a cord I can stretch it in this stove as it uses less wood than a normal woodstove plus I can cook & bake on this one so that's a big plus for me. Was able to go to my friends daddy farm & get a bag of small butternut squash, 30 for $6, plus 8 spaghetti squash & 4 garlic bulbs so an thrilled to have a nice little area of the basement with bins of vegs, plus the mans daug who lives 2 houses from me brought over a 50 lb bag of potatoes for us also 2 days ago.So we will have a good winter with all these vegs & what I was able to can of tomato's at the farm. I am looking forward to all the different soups this winter & I still have some of the dried vegs the hens sent me last year to use in them. Funny how when the fall hits I start thinking of all the wonderful soups & stews we'll enjoy once the snow hits...Normally I never think about food but sure do this time of the year.
I am still unpacking, fell a few days ago & really messed up my right knee but its not broken but may have a torn ligament so its slowed me down a tad..thankful I have good strong bones since I tend to do this often...lol
Miss Lemon has decided to start molting along with lauria & Bowzer so am glad I have the ceramic heat lamps in the coop as its dropping into the 20's at night. Hoping they all get in some good feathers before the 1st snow or I may be on the sewing machine making little jackets for all of them!
I was able to buy all their stuff for the winter mix I do up each year before $ got tight so I have 475 lbs of that for all the kids to enjoy this winter with their normal chicken feed.
mainly just trying to get the things done that need to get done before the ground freezes up so messed in the yard some today & still need to get the thornless raspberry planted that's in a pot as I am worried it will die if left in the pot over the winter & I got it growing really well in composting manure while at the farm.
een trying to get the photos downloaded but for some reason the place we are to use I am still not able to get them cut & pasted for here..so bear with me on that & hopefully soon I will have pics for y'all.
