I am soooo not a Happy Camper right now!
I have to wait until after Thursday, after the new carpet gets installed, to finish un-packing... in the mean time,,, I have the base for my Dress Form (manequin) missing... and the movers in their infinite wisdom decided to remove the 'feet' off of one of my wooden manequins,,, now I can't get the feet to go back on correctly!
Then on top of that, they also removed the legs off of some of my sewing machine tables,, and did they tape them to the tables?,,, NO, they wrpped them and used them for filler in other boxes!
It only gets worse as we look for things still missing.... Uugh!

Katmom-

I feel your frustration! My husband retired more than four years ago and we have not even talked about moving yet, and it is mostly because the thought of dealing with all that upheaval gives me hives. Hopefully it won't be long until all is back in place and right with the world.

To put a little pleasant thing in your day: I have some scraps of the cheery Santa-face fabric in those adorable pot holders from Pintrist. Let me know if you'd like me to send them to you. The blog from which the photo came is worth a visit - the blogger has some of the nicest craft ideas I have ever seen in one place. And I will be hunting for that striped binding fabric - I am going to take a stab at making those potholders today if I find it!

You're not a grouch, Grace - that is so stressful! I would be going bonkers - I think you're doing great holding it together! I hope you find everything quickly so you can have a little peace and enjoy setting up your new home! (Those potholders are adorable!) Hugs - Nini

I have moved several times in my life. As a child my family moved every 3 years so I am a pro at packing and moving.

I have a few rules:

1) Pack like things in a box or pack stuff from the same room in a box. Example, books or kitchen stuff.

2) Mark all the boxes with a item or room name to refer to the contents. Example, books or kitchen stuff.

3) Do all the packing yourself. It might be a lot of work but it is a time saver when DH wants his favorite belt or you want that one special cup to drink tea.

Try everything once and the fun things twice.

Grace, we moved in August and the packers and movers have put stuff in very strange places. Just found the casters for my sewing cabinet in an old clothes hamper that I use for rags. Still looking for other things and at this point am calling them lost for good. How do things from the master bedroom end up in a box on kitchen things? Next time I pack myself!!!

Penny... yep, no rhyme or reason as to why or where the movers put things!

Nini, if it were not for dear friends reminding me,,, that it will all work out, I probably would hit a Liquor shop and stock up on Martini makings! lol! Thank goodness for friends! lolololol!

Marie,, such simple logic... if only the 'packers & mover' would apply it...

I did pack a lot of the stuff,,, labeled contents and where it would go, ie: sewing kits/craft rm.... but apparently the movers did not have time to READ the label,,, and my stuff ended out in the mini Man Cave and some of my hubby's tools ended up in the guest room... which made him scratch his head! I had to reassure him that he wasn't getting moved into the guest room! lolololol!

Grace, when we moved here I found boxes a year later, that we didn't even open and didn't know were still in the garage - ha ha! Hope you find peace in all of it.

I so know how you feel. Hubby and I now have our house paid off and do not plan to go anywhere if we can help it. Even though I will always long for that big country kitchen with an open floor plan.....that is not going to happen! I do not want to knock down walls either! But, I am trying to get rid of "stuff" so the house will feel bigger and so the amount we might have to move someday will not be so overwhelming. So far, I get rid of stuff and bring in new stuff......

My hubby and I moved several times, my hubby from the time entered school and by the time graduated they moved 22 times. 3 different schools in one year. He is an excellent packer. He never wants to move again. He said he only has once more place to move and that is the stump hole that I am to put him in when he kicks the bucket. That is awful isn't it!

Happy to share! Isn't it a sa-weeeeeet thing to find something other than bills waiting for you?

I'm sure you'll create something fabulous ad fun with your newfound zeal having located your sewing machine.

I hit a wall, creatively, not being able to find anything close to that adorable candy cane stripe on those Christmas potholders you posted, but just last week I located something that I think is pretty darn close. Unfortunately for my wallet but happily for my soul, in searching for that fabric I came across a fabric collection that I felt the need to have one of each color. Oh my. it is so special because it reminds me of my favorite Grandma…not sure what it may become.

I'll need to do a major overhaul of my sewing machine this evening. I'm taking it to our Girl Scout meeting where the girls are going to use it for a service project involving the dreaded fleece. I know that fleece fuzz will get in to even little spaces, not unlike sand in your unmentionable areas at the beach! The scouts are making no-sew (tied) fleece pillows for teens at a local homeless shelter, but decided to sew a "secret" pocket on to the back of the pillow for stashing important little stuff. I love their thoughtfulness - they wanted to put it on the back of a pillow so the teen could sort of hide personal things since they might live a a big dorm room where they have little privacy. Sniff.

So here is the unfortunate (for my wallet) part: this wonderful collection came in yellow, lime green, red, pink and aqua. I "limited" myself to the everything but red, and only because I could not locate half-yard pieces of each pattern. I don't know what my Grandma had that reminds me so very strongly of this, but I think it was a dress. As I said, I'm not sure what it will turn in to but for now I just adore it : )

Oh Cindy... your ano;ogy of 'fleece vs sand'... toooo funny! & so true! lol!

As for the Scouts... bless their hearts.... what a wonderful thing to do.

and yes, it was a delight to find something sweet in the mail other than junk & bills! lol!

Thank you again... and I will be heading back up to Oakhurst sometime next week,, when I do, I will stop in at "The Bear Paw" quilt shop and snoop around to see if just in case they might have that sweet striped fabric... :>)
