Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has information on using a wind turbine to produce electricity. Our place is located on a rise with a good open area behind our property so I know we can catch a breeze/wind when one is available. I don't even think we would want to invest in a large turbine because the amount of wind won't be that reliable as if we were living in more of a prarie setting. Someone not far from us has one and I will probably stop by one day and ask them about it but wanted to know if anyone here has had experience with this sort of thing.

Candace, I have looked into wind power where we are also - and this is a website that I like - it's a government site, and it has good information on current project areas and the like. I'm not sure what information you're looking for, but this might be a good place to start [http://www.eere.energy.gov/windandhydro/windpoweringamerica/index.asp]!

My dad sent me info on a Danish-made windmill that is supposed to work with as little as 3 mph winds. I'll see if I can't dig up the link to it... or at least a name and location...

"'Ode' magazine, October issue, p.17 had an article on wind energy. www.odemagazine.com
XCO2 (www.quietrevolution.co.uk) has a beautiful turbine, but expensive.
www.windside.com is a company in Finland with a very efficiant, lower cost turbine, supposedly as low as $3,720. Windside works in a wide range of wind speeds (as low as 2 or 3 mph) and is low maintenance.
Both are verticle shaft and quiet. Also, they don't have to turn to face the wind. If you have a fairly constant movement, the windside turbine might be just the thing."
