12/09/13: Silky is doing well! She's very much a part of our family and we are enjoying her immensely. She's playful, loving, fun and has just settled right in.

We are having very cold weather right now and this is what she likes to do in the evening . . . in front of the pellet stove. Smart kitty!

Hi Farmgirls,
Many of you may remember that my kitty, Skye, disappeared the beginning of December. She had lived with us for 16 years and it was soooooo hard to come to grips with the fact she'd probably not come back. We actually think a predator . . . and we have MANY . . . got her.

Anyway, today I adopted "Silky". A black short-hair tortoiseshell with some coloration. She's young, probably not quite a year but has had one litter of 4 kittens. She's cuddly, friendly, sweet . . .she purrs and doesn't yowl a lot. She's also quite playful and it'll be fun to enjoy that.

She is a shelter kitty . . . we've adopted most of our pets from the shelter and she has to stay there until she goes to be spayed on Tuesday morning. I'll be able to go get her that afternoon when the procedure is done and she's awake enough to come home.

Happens to be that a local humane society, For Pet's Sake, was having a yard sale a couple miles down the highway from the shelter. We decided to see if they just might possibly have a kennel type enclosure suitable for her to have a little "Silky House" in our utility room. The Lord does provide . . . they did, perfect size, almost new and $15.00 We are grateful! And there was only this one!

Now we get other things in place so she can come and live with us on Tuesday afternoon. Appreciate your prayers for her spaying surgery and transition to our home!
Thanks for letting me share! She's good for my soul!
CJ

In the shelter, playing with the toys they had there.

Focusing on a toy my hubby was enticing her with.

Oh CJ, she is so cute and the name Silky fits her to a T. I am so happy for you. And I know she will dig her new home. It awesome to give a rescue animal a new home. I can't imagine what she will think about all the new adventures she is going to have.
Congrats to you CJ. Love and hugs Marlee

CJ...she is really pretty!!! I know she will have a Wonderful Home and you will have
more love for your soul...to last you a life time. PETS are absolutely good medicine
for our lives.

You know me...I am not a Cat Mama...because I am allergic to them. But I am a good Dog
Mama and I know how therapeutic any pet can be.

ENJOY YOUR HOME TOGETHER MY FRIEND!

Thanks girls!
I've always had a cat . . . or more . . . growing up on a farm we just had cats and dogs.

I love them all, but like them best if they are cuddly, friendly, affectionate, purr and are not loud, frequent "yowlers".
I'm especially fond of the calico or tortoiseshell kitties. Have owned several of them and just find them to be interesting!

CJ,

My heart swells with joy to see your new fur baby...she is beautiful...I know she is going to fill your heart and home with so much joy...it's been a week tomorrow since I lost my Sweet Kitty...I am in the process of cleaning everything as the vet said the feline leukemia and virus he had was very contagious to other cats...so a thorough cleaning is priority to me right now...I cannot wait to get me another sweet fur baby...I never knew how much joy a house kitty could bring...I've had outside kitties all my life but there is just something so special having them inside with you...they are just like little children...

Enjoy every moment with your precious new fur baby:):):)

Hugs!

Judy

Thinking of you Judy! Praying for you as you go through this.

It's been almost 10 months since Skye disappeared . . . taking me some time to get to this place.

Hugs to you!

CJ, I remember Skye going on more than one "walkabout" and how long you kept vigil for her that last time. I am thrilled you have such a gorgeous new friend coming home in a few days. Silky is such a lovely color. She will be in my thoughts the next few days. Have fun with your new member of the family!

I called the shelter this morning to tell them her name so they could call her "Silky" now, since she's still there until tomorrrow.
They were glad she has a name!

"Silky" is home! She told me all about how she did NOT like being hauled around in a cardboard box with holes in it, being denied food, having her belly shaved and cut open, being poked (given rabies vac., pain medication and getting her microchip).
But she is purring, quite obviously hungry, just LOVED and LOVED being petted and snuggled . . purring like a well-oiled engine.
She really likes her "apartment" and has made herself at home there.
Bramble, our dog, is doing good with her and I told her that she (Bramble) was the "Queen of Everything"!

Hopefully things will continue to go well . . she'll eat and drink okay, not lick her incision and all that!
I'll get some other pics posted here soon!
Thanks for your encouragements and prayers!

Silky did well in the night, settling in on her "loft" in her "apartment". We had spent quite a bit of time holding, petting and talking to her, letting her roam about the utility room. Bramble is doing good with her and she was content all night, quiet all night.
Found a little ball for her to play with this morning with some more pet, hold, time. My sewing machine is in the same room and she can keep an eye on me while I sew!

"Silky" is adapting very well! Playing in the utility room with a little ball, a spool, exploring . . . she is eating well and seems to really like her "apartment".

This morning I let her out and shut the door between the utility room and rest of the house and just let her play/roam. Went out a little later, she had turned over my sewing trash waste basket and found an empty spool which she was chasing all around. I found another one in there and we ran cord through the hole, hanging it in her kennel so she has something she can bat around in there as well.

She and Bramble continue to do good together . . .Bramble even wants to play when Silky is chasing the ball or spool! :D
