Just finished the book Little Heathens Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm During the Great Depression by Mildred Armstrong Kalish.

I tend to take my time when reading a book and savor it to the end. I loved this book. It brought back so many memories of my childhood. I wasn't even thought of at the time period Mildred wrote about, but I can remember many of the same things. I was born in 1952 and people still had some of the same ways of living and raising children. It is well worth reading. Mary Jane told me it was one of the "Top 10 Books of 2007". After reading it, it is easy to see why it was in the Top Ten.

Anyone who was a child in the 30's to the late 50's will be able to relate to Mildred's story. Even if you lived in the city, I think you would enjoy every word. If you are younger, you will learn quite a bit about everyday life during the Great Depression. Sooooo glad I bought and read this book.

As a member of a younger generation, I am interested! My mother always said I was born with an old soul.

I got the book! And I am loving it! I started reading it aloud to my 9 yr old, who hasn't been complaining much about his chores! I guess he figures he's got it easy.... Since I read faster when I'm not reading aloud, I am personally halfway through the book! This is such an amazing book! Thank you for the opportunity!

Ally, You're welcome. Glad you are enjoying it. I sure liked it. Be sure to copy some of the recipes. I forgot to before I sent it so I purchased another copy.
