When my grandmother died I had the opportunity to go through her recipes and copy them. If you ever find yourself in this situation, copy even the stuff that comes out of newspapers. I have found that some of the vintage recipes sometimes lack clarity and specifics. I suppose the old timers never thought the recipes would never be passed down or assumed that common knowledge about technique and know how. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to copy these recipes . Going to make bread and butter pickles this week.

I second this idea, I have so many recipes that are in my Grandmas's hand, along with my Mom's and my late Mother-in-laws, along with so many torn outa newspapers and magazines, several years ago I started putting them in those clear full sheet size pockets, then putting them in binders, according to type of recipe...it was funny finding the same recipe (with a differant name), several times from my side of the family, and my late hubbys side, coming from differant states and times, keep them all together that way, made me smile alot...

Looking at her handwritten bread and butter pickle recipe the icing of the cucumbers confused me until.I read an article that she clipped out stating how to do it.
