I researched where Nebraska Public Power district gets their energy and compared and contrasted the different methods. The bulk of our energy comes from coal that is brought in by train from Wyoming. NPPD claims that this is "clean" coal that results in lower emissions and pollution. However, the EPA website shows that NPPD produces almost twice as many emissions as the national average. Hmmmm....On the bright side, NPPD is working on developing more renewable energy sources, specifically wind energy. Their goal is to source 10% of their energy from renewable sources. I'm glad they are trying but it seems like they could do better than 10%.

Baby steps lead to toddling... toddling to walking... walking to running... running to soaring. All in due time, Katrina! That really is such exciting news to hear that they are trying! Maybe if you have some more information to share with them, they'll take it under consideration! You just never know! Go for it! :) Hugs - Nini

Here in the Pacific Northwest, Puget Sound Energy has been strongly encouraged (ie, petitions and votes) to lose the coal source power and go to renewable resources only. They currently have a mix that is mostly hydroelectric, but also coal, natural gas, nuclear, and a few others. They are also adding wind to the mix. I for one will be glad when we have gotten away from the dinosaurs.
