Hi there...Beemoosie here! I just wanted to get in on this...what a fun bunch of farmgirls you are! I am SO new that I just picked up MaryJanes book yesterday. It spoke to me! So here I am. I am a mother of two, basically stay at home and work p/t in the Cafeteria!!! I love to quilt, cook, stitch...ect. I love to ecourage women to not be afraid of the "domestic arts." I am starting a 4H group so if anyone has good ideas for teaching such things, please let me now.
Have a great day!

Nice to meet you all! I am a "blossoming" farmgirl;learning as I go. I love things homemade and from scratch. I have found out the last couple years that it's not always as hard as it sounds and it's always better. I have an almost 14 yr. old daughter and a 12 year old son, a hubby and a 10 yr old dog-JasmineBelle. As I said before quilting is my passion, but I really love all needle craft. I purchased MaryJane's book yesterday and was almost amazed that so many people feel like I do about homemade, handmade simplicity. I guess I have grown up with and worked with alot of women who think homemaking is a dirty word. I am a simple cross of my dad's dairy farming roots in New York and my mother's family roots from Pineville KY.
Well, thank you again for the warm welcome and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi, Bonnie. I live in the city of Rochester, so I think that makes you geographically the closest person to me here! You are also right next door to the Genesee Country Museum (lucky you). Maybe you could find some inspiration for 4-H activities in their program bulletin? They teach some of the crafts you mentioned, and you could see what projects they consider appropriately difficult for kids of your age group.
Welcome!

Hello Jenny & Bonnie,
Thank you for the welcome! This is the very first forum I've ever taken part in. Actually, this is the only one I even look at! :) I love reading all the posts because in my heart I really relate to the authors. I hesitated to join because even though I live in the country, I don't consider myself a farmgirl; I just want to be one. I live south of Buffalo, in the snow belt as they call it. We did not get hit with that awful storm a couple weeks ago. But I work in Buffalo, so when I went to work after the storm, it was so sad to see the tops of all the beautiful old trees just snapped right off or the whole tree completely fallen to the ground. We're usually the ones getting all the snow. I really felt bad for everyone. I'm in my late 40s, married with two grown children, two grandchildren and a third on the way. I work full time as a secretary at a college. We also have a summer cottage. So I really don't have much spare time. I do what I can, but having a beautiful vegetable garden or keeping animals seems out of my reach. I do, however, love to sew and knit when I can fit it in. I'll try to post when I can, I'm really looking forward to it.

Good Morning Julie,
I think we are all at different levels of "farmgirlness" here. It's what is in the heart that counts! I didn't grow up as a farmgirl. My mother's parents are from Kentucky, and mom kinda spent my growing up years trying to be more "sophisticated". She did teach me to cook though. I do not live on a farm, a 1/2 in the village actually. I've only had a veggie garden for 2 years and I have frozen some stuff but yet to learn to can. I just love much of the philosophy(sp) of the farmlife, the simpleness and so forth. I kinda feel there is a lot in society we have lost the last 100 years in the name of "progress"; but there is alot of good left too. I quilt, sew and do cross stitch too, there is just something so warm about it all.
Well, I guess it's early in the morning and I am blabbin' on! Welcome again and hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Julie and Bonnie, I'm in NY also. I'm right outside of Syracusse so I'm fairly close to you Bonnie. It seems that we are finally getting a little group here in central NY. When I first joined everyone in NY was down state so it seems nice to have some central NYer's on here as well. Julie, I also live in a snow belt but we haven't had anything yet but once we hit Thanksgiving or so, all bets are off.

Welcome to the forums, I'm sure you will find something here to amuse you.

Kathy

Hi Kathy,
Nice to "meet" you. I agree, once Thanksgiving gets closer, anything goes. I have a 32 mile commute (one way) to work. Sometimes I'll leave work and the sun is shining, and the further south I go, the worse it gets. We could be having our own personal blizzard at home and nothing in the city of Buffalo. This is very nice. Like I said in my previous post, I've never participated in a forum before. I think I'm going to like this! Well, take care and keep warm.

Hi Kelly,
This is so nice, "talking" to women I can relate to. Even though I don't have a farm, I love living in the country (have for 31 years now). I do have a barn, but it's full of stuff, not animals. I posted a couple of messages in the waterfront section of "A Farm of my Own." So I'm having a great time here. Thanks for the warm welcome.
