I bought this plant yesterday from a vendor at a farmers market. She had no idea what it is, only that she 'bought it from an old lady at a yard sale' years ago. I'd love to know what it is called. Anybody have any idea????? The pot is about 4 inches tall and the plant is about 8 inches above the pot to the top of the tallest bloom. The bloom itself is about 2 inches by 2 inches. The stem has fine little hairs on it. At first, it reminded me of a cleome.

Teri - I took it out of the pot and it's not a bulb. and it's blooming now and not spring. Also, the flower doesn't seem to have as many petals as I see on pics of anemones and the leaves look different. It's so confusing. Can't believe that woman has sold this plant so long and not bothered to find out what it is. Darn her, anyhow.

Teri - I sure forgot to ask her how big it will get. Maybe I'll go back this Sat. and try to find her again. That is a great question and I can't believe I forgot to ask it. A local friend sent me a site to check today and also suggested Rose of Sharon. I'll post what I find out today.

Well, okay, I'm feeling like an idiot today. From somewhere in the depths of my ancient brain.....it's some type of Rose Mallow! That means that everybody who said Rose of Sharon and/or Hibiscus...well, it's related to both of those! Just haven't seen any Rose Mallow for a looooooong time. Hope it lives.

It looks like a Rose Mallow Plant to me too.
