I'm getting a lot of cucumbers on my vines. These are not pickling cukes, but burpless ones--the really long ones. Can I pick them when they are skinny and make refrigerator pickles out of them? And, does anyone have a delicious recipe for refrigerator pickles?

Betty,

I haven't checked...but maybe you could find a recipe online. I don't know a lot about making pickles but hope you find the recipes you need.

Hugs!

Thanks Judy. I went grocery shopping today and forgot to get pickling spices. I suppose I could go tomorrow. It is hydroplane racing weekend and you wouldn't believe the traffic. I think it is just a matter of spices, some sugar, vinegar, and (of course) cucumbers.

I'll google a recipe and see what I can find. I thought someone might know a recipe off the top of their head.

I have a recipe on my site that I got from a magazine years ago: http://pioneerwomanatheart.blogspot.com/2010/07/first-cucumbers-of-season-first-time-to.html

(not sure about the type of cucumbers you have)

Betty,
if you go to Margaret at a way to garden, she has a good recipe on there.
I've used it 2 years now and hope to use it again this year. You can make it by the
jar, so nice for my small crop! She states that you can never use too much garlic,
but I used a little less the second time!

Debbie, I can't seem to follow your directions. Could you be more specific?

Thanks,

Sorry to say, they weren't what I was looking for. My apologies in not being more specific. I was looking for bread and butter pickles and I found them. Thanks for all your efforts.

This recipe makes four pint jars. Enough for me and a couple to give away as gifts.
