My name is Sarah and I'm a newbie from Georgia,(although I have already signed up for the Tea Towel and the Apron Swap.) I'm only a farmgirl at heart, really. I live in deepest suburbia with only two cats and a dog on my "farm". I'm an artist, (www.sdalyartist.com) painting being my major intrest, but I love to create anything. Including trouble. I've also started a little gallery with a friend of mine from college. My husband is a screen printer, and a guitar player. So, there is always something happening at our house.
I was brought up with "bored" being a dirty word. It automatically made you very, very busy doing things like washing windows and cleaning gunk. But, there were times when I got to do things that I still love, like ironing and folding clothes (if you can believe it!) My mom taught me the value of doing things yourself. and the pride that comes with knowing that you can make something that costs less and looks better. Every Christmas, I bake batches of cookies and send them out to friends, family, and neighbors. It is an amazing amout of work, but I must love it, because I'm already amassing the ingredients for this years "super bake". I really love giving these away and I know that people enjoy recieving them because they ask me if I'm going to be giving them away this year, too! ( They especially ask about my pinwheel-date cookies YUMMM!)
so, my mom taught me how to bake and how to sew and how to garden. but , there is so much more that I'm interested in learning, and everyone here seems so nice. I think that I'd like to join in, even if I don't currently own any livestock. I found MJF at my local Borders bookstore.

Hey Sarah,

I checked out your gallery site quickly...very cool! We have some things in common. I'd love to hear more about your art space and how you and your husband make your artist's life work. My honey and I are dreaming/planning to create a space to live in and create in, combining art classes (watercolor, drawing, mixed media, beading jewelry making, etc), guitar and singing lessons, meeting rooms (for songwriters, book clubs, workshops, etc.) Plus a big studio space for open studio and art classes. We want to have weekend house concerts when our touring musician friends come through town, grow a big garden out back or on the roof (maybe sell what we grow), offer nurture and support to artists and musicians and grow a family.

It's nice to meet you! And I'd love to hear more about the pinwheel date cookie recipe!

Welcome Sarah
My mother taught me to use every minute and if you said you where bored she would find you something to do - not always fun. Now she complains that I can not just sit still or that I must always being doing something with my hands. Go figure! I am glad you are with our group and it sounds like you are making a great home for yourself. Enjoy and look foreword to more sharing.

Your mom and my mom sound alot alike..heck, now with my own kids I am the same way..no one dares to say they are bored. But it makes for everyone keeping busy and being creative..which is awfully cool!
Date Pinwheel cookies are one of my favorites!! I havn't made them in years..hmmmm I need to dig out that recipe..thanks for the reminder!! I tend to make jelly tart cookies since the kids love them.

Nice to meet you, Sarah. I'm with Marie about the pinwheel date cookie recipe - could you post it sometime? I think my husband would like it(like I wouldn't eat just as many! LOL).

Hi Sarah,

Marie, again. Is your gallery in your house or do you have a separate space? Do you rent gallery space or own it? That's our big hairy thing right now, trying to creatively finance a place to do all the living, growing, creating and nurturing in one large multipurpose building/piece of land on our budget. I'm sure that more exploring of the site will yield some great ideas. But, if you have any experience or thoughts. I'd love to hear them.

Meanwhile, I'll start a new thread under "Garden Gate" about my raised bed gardens. If you want some ideas, I'm happy to share! "City growing" has it's challenges but, it can be done!

Take care,

Marie

Hey all!
thanks for the warm welcome!
to answer some questions..
Grace, I can't sit still either- and neither can my mom. It's like a sickness. except if you go to bed, you feel guilty.
Sunshine, all those cookies!! Did you call Guiness Book of world Records, 'cause I think that is an amazing amount. they do say that pregnant women can do amazing things, though.

thanks to everyone who visited my website. I've been getting ready for a group show next month. Along with everything else that happens in December, so I've missed alot of time on here. I have to do a slew of paintings, 'cause I sold a couple of my new ones, and I don't have enough to fill up the large gallery space. Talk about blessing and a curse!! I love to paint, and I love to sell, but oh, why this month???
