Hello! I didn't have anyone in my Province so I started my own Chapter! :) This should be an interesting undertaking! I can't wait to find others who are interested in the same lifestyle. I am a single mom to an almost 5 year old little boy. We have a Shiloh Shepherd and a cat. I'm interested in Herbalism and Wildcrafting but I'm very crafty as well.

Welcome Helena, It is good to have you here on the farm and it sounds like you are going to have a great time here. I have always wanted to see Nova Scotia, I saw some pictures in a travel brochure and it was beautiful. I know you are way up North but I am in Northern CA. not quite as far up as you. Enjoy the farm and I really am glad your with us. hugs darlene

Helena,
Welcome!!! I'm a newbie as well, from SC. Wildcrafting is not something I'm real familiar with, primarily due to having too many little ones to be able to go and also because I am not comfortable identifying herbs in the wild, but I love working with herbs!!! My oldest dd is almost 10 and I have her "hooked" as well :) We work primarily with dried herbs, though occasionally we use fresh from our yard and/or garden.

@Shannon: I took a couple of Herbalism courses from a Medical Herbalist and now I can't go anywhere without identifying stuff. Try driving down the highway for example. I have to keep a folding shovel and some paper bags in my car for emergencies. Depending on the season I spot herbs like Bayberry and get ridiculously excited! Glad to see another enthusiast! :O)

How exciting! One day I hope to "get my feet wet" and learn more about identifying herbs in the wild, though I know there are some herbs that are being over-harvested in the wild, as well. I love how my oldest dd will just start chewing some chickweed for a spit poultice when her brothers get stung by a bee, or when she asks to use some activated charcoal on ant bites (we have really mean fire ants down here), or some yarrow on a puncture wound. I've taken a couple courses to learn more about the benefits and uses of herbs, but not for identifying plants. Maybe that will be next on my agenda :) |

How cool! I'm brand new and this is the first post I read. I'm also just learning about herbs, and have made salve and a tincture so far. Would love to advance to wild rafting. I'm way down in Florida, but am so excited to have found this forum and see some kindred spirits right away! |
