What all do you put in your compost pile. I cut some cabbage and the outer leaves were full of aphids. Would you put them in. How about non seeded weeds? I have never had a compost pile and was wondering.

I've never composted for gardening (my compostables go in the manure storage for our cows then hauled on the fields) but I would say yes put the cabbage in and the weeds. Weeds have some of the best nutrients in them. If they're not full of seeds it will help your compost! Heather
I put leaves, fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and weeds that haven't gone to seed in my garden pile. Occasionally a bag of grass clippings that are pesticide free too although we grasscycle now so rarely overfill the recycle bin anymore.
I agree on the weeds and seeds bit. I do not put meat or leftover grease in the compost. Here, I end up giving much of my leftovers to our goats, and most of my coffee grounds and egg shells go in my gardens too.
