Just asking if anyone has used it to color hair. I have mostly gray hair and dyed it for my DD's wedding. But now it is growing out and do not want to keep coloring it with usual chemicals. Heard henna might work. Anyone with knowledge about this?

i have read that you can use it to color hair, but i have never tried it.

My former boss always hennas her hair. It is quite a process and once you starting doing it that way, you can't switch to regular hair coloring products. I would research it a bit more before making up your mind. You could try a organic hair color or salon that uses organic products instead.

Good luck on finding what works best for you!

Yes, I use henna on my hair and I love it! Or I should say, I love the results. The process itself is kind of a mess... :)

I have dark brown hair and henna gives me a sort of red sheen in the light. (I always wanted to be a redhead, and this is about as close as I can get without a major dye job.) If you are covering blond or gray hair with henna, I believe it comes out VERY red. If that's not the look you're going for, there are mixes of henna and indigo which create more of an auburn or brunette color.

There are lots of good websites and how-to youtube videos out there. Here is where I have gotten a lot of good info and order my henna: http://www.hennaforhair.com

Henna dyes are better now then they used to be (more user friendly).

I do remember that henna kind of makes a seal on the hair strand so once you henna using chemical dyes might not work well because they wont' be able to penetrate the hair shaft.

It's true, henna and conventional dye cannot mix. Also henna is considerably less permanent. Washes out rather quickly in my opinion. That said, I liked the colors. Look into other alternatives as well.
