Hi,I have wanted this place ever since I was little but it was never for sale.Now we own it.It all went so fast it hasn't really hit me.A big barn,an old house and a creek.But ohhhh,soooo much junk to have to get rid of. Lots of
washers,dryers,stoves,freezers,fridges and 2 old cars and a fifth wheel trailer! Not to mention the stuff in the house and barn and garbage in the yard.But I'm not afraid of hard work! The place hasn't had a loving hand since the original owners' built.He milled the boards from trees on the property in the 30's.The house is sound but needs a new foundation. It only leaks in one spot and needs new panes in some of the windows.Eventually,we want to completely renovate it.I remember visiting the older lady who lived there and she had a wonderful garden and greenhouse.I have permission to use the greenhouse(it's on the lot next door).Can't wait to start clean-up.A farm of my own! I hope that lady is looking down and smiling that I will do her justice! |

Congratulations, Dorothy! You sound like a woman with pioneer spirit - nothing's going to stop you! An old house, a barn AND a creek--that sounds like heaven to me! :)

Oh, I am so excited for you...dh and I are in the process of finding our "spot" So many places to look, but nothing has spoken to us....
How fun for you to be in your place, the home you have always dreamed of having.
Don't be afraid of all the hard work, Time passes and you might as well spend your time bring your home to it's full glory! I have lots of great memories of helping my parents re-model and re-do our homes.

Hey Dorothy, How do you get rid of all that stuff in Skagway? We had the same problem even though we are near Anchorage. 18 tires we hauled away. I don't know what it is about alaskans and how they're terrified of parting with anything. It took us two years to clean out all the junk, now we just have OUR junk! Any snow in Skagway? We're a slow start this fall, finally staying below freezing. I would die for a greenhouse! jo

How exciting that it now is all yours! I love challenges like that, it so much fun (and ALOT of work!) to improve an older home. We remodeled ours, it was so rewarding. Good Luck on all your new projects!

Wonderful Dorathy-you'll have to keep us posted on your progress. It is so fun to hear of you getting your dream place. And, being able to use the greenhouse! Hope you find places for all the junk (stuff. That older lady will surely be smiling upon you.

Congrats, Dorothy! There's nothing like a place of your own. As you're carting off all that rubbish, make sure you send off the less-than-savory vibes that all that stuff created. You want a fresh, clean start to your new place.
I've been to Skagway and I love it! You live in a very special place.

| Oh man,I can't believe all the junk!We were told the scrap metal barge wasn't coming for 3 wks. Then a few days later,"it'll be here Saturday".That gave me 2 days to get the job rolling.First , the 5th wheel trailer had to go.It wasn't worth trying to wait and sell(leaky roof) and was smack in the way of everything else.Sooooo,a few phonecalls later(harried)!,this is Friday,a.m.,deadline day for s.m.removal,the trailer was gone.Then to sweet talk the City guys into coming up and getting the junk"we'll bring a truck".No,not A truck, bring ALL your trucks! Soooo,4 hrs later,3 truckloads and 1 dumptruck load,= 2 freezers,2 fridges,6 washers,dryers,stoves,1 coke machine,parts of an old travel trailer(can you believe they tried to burn it!), 2 old oil stoves,1 metal countertop,3- 50 gal. drums,and numerous items.Comments"where is she getting all this stuff?!,She needs to quit,we have no more room"! |

Dorothy-Congrats! we have owned our dream spot for 10 years, My Husband renovated the whole house for the last 6 months at night after work & Tomorrow we FINALLY move back home YEAH!!!!
Take LOTS of pics as you go some people who never saw it won't believe it!
