Okay the family is selling the farm. It has been in the family since 1940. My DH was born and raised here on it. I have lived here on it since we got married in 1979. I love my home and is so upset with this. But majority rules so I sat and cried at the signing of the contract. Life as I have known it is fixing to change. I do not like change and being taken out of my comfort zone. My DH and I have no clue in what we are going to do or where we are going to go. All the big money big shots sat around the table watching me. They were all lost for words. They are big time developers here. The property is a prime piece of property that they all want. Of course my husband is very excited about the money but for some reason I am not. I am not a material person so maybe that's why the money is not exciting for me. I raised my children here and we planted all the beautiful trees in the yard. This is not easy for me at all. Pray that I will find a new place that I love just as much.

I am so sorry to hear this. I can understand why you are upset. That is a big change with special memories going with it and it is not easy to deal with.
Just think of it as a new adventure in your lives and that the next part of your life will bring new and special things that you will love when it comes.
My prayers are with you all through this big transition.

Wow, Dorinda, this is shocking. I can only imagine how painful it feels to sell your farm and change your entire life as you have known it. I wish you the best of luck figuring out the next steps for moving forward. I hope the transition will be easier than anticipated!

Dorinda,
I am sorry to hear of your situation. Someone told me once that when God closes one door He opens another. It will be hard, but good things will come. Hang in there.

Dorinda I too am sorry to hear about this turn of events. My husband and I had to sell our small farm that we lived on since 1965. We raised all our children there and even raised a grandaughter (part way)there. She id 19 now and still lives with me. We were the last in the area to sell but decided to only because we would be surrounded by a development and couldn't have our horses and chickens anymore. We were the last to go. The stress of it all killed my husband. I just know it did!! Two years later he had a massive stroke and I took care of him for 4 years before he passed. SO I am telling you to breath deep and look forward to better things. You can do it! Don't let stress and unhappiness take over. I wish you peace. MaryBeth

Dorinda, I am so sorry to hear this...I know the money isn't important right now, but maybe you can look at it as an opportunity to make another special place for you and your husband. Find that perfect farm in another area. Plant more trees (the first one can be for starting off your new life in a new place!) Change is so difficult for me, so I'll look back on my post when I need to take my own advice, but I really believe home is where you make it. If not there at that farm, then a new farm. With new flowers and a new traditions that include your grown children.

I would have cried with you--I understand. Our homes, no matter how small or large, are just that--home. The very part of our being that makes us feel safe, loved--even frustrated. The very thread of your family life.

I am thinking of you as you make this transition--I hope that, with this new opportunity, you can find a place that your heart and soul loves as much, just in a different way and place.

Dorinda - I am so sorry! I will pray that the money you receive can go towards another piece of property that you will fall in love with. It will not be the same, but it could be close!!!

Oh Dorinda,
I just saw this post. I am so sorry to hear that you had to sell the farm. I can totally understand what you mean about it being "home" and having raised your children there and all the memories that are there.
I will pray that you are able to find a place that feels like home, and as others have said where you can make new memories, perhaps now with your grandchildren!
Hugs to you,

~Laurie

Dorinda,
So sorry for your loss. Some of us have grown deep roots on the land we love. I have seen this happen to families. Lucky for my husband and me, we own our place. Do the best you can mentally and emotionally about your move. Hopefully you can find the perfect spot to buy. Remember, this way no one can take it away from you. Hugs,

Patsy

You might not be able to carry your trees with you, but you can carry the memories. You are very blessed to have had that land be a part of your life but now it looks like God has other plans for you. I will say a prayer for you Dorinda. God bless.

Oh Dorinda, I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope maybe we can lean on one another a bit for I'm also going through the same thing. My cows went to auction in March and my equipment in May and now the farm is up for sale. This is the place I poured my heart and soul into. It's also a prime piece of property due to the Marcellus Shale but I just wanted to farm. I know every rut every woodchuck hole every apple tree and every wild blueberry bush on it. I sit in the silent barn every night and cry. I also know what you mean about sitting around the table with a bunch of suits throwing big figures around. It makes me want to scream. I too am like you and don't care about the money, I just love my farm. I so hope the best for you. I know people say to just move on but it's not that easy for it almost feels like the death of a good friend. Praying you find a new place you love as much.

An update on selling the farm. We are still in contract. But the buyers are slowly coming down on price. So the sisters are starting to change their mind about selling. We will see what happens. They are waiting for a response from us. The family is talking about backing out. Hum time will tell. Should know a little more in a few weeks. So I may be keeping my home after all! Afraid to get excited yet.....
